We stayed in the Safari Lodge after climbing Kilimanjaro and it was a perfect hotel for some rest and relaxation.

The road leading to the lodge is very run down and leaves you wondering where you're heading.

The stand out part of the lodge is the superb, clean and large swimming pool. Some of our group ordered a massage in the morning.

We had a lovely dinner after climbing Kili. The breakfast buffet was also nice. Drinks (alcoholic and soft drinks) were reasonably priced at the table and around the pool.

The rooms are OK. We had a twin room with two single beds. Each bed had a mosquito net, and a small en-suite bathroom.

Wifi was available throughout the hotel. It struggled with 19 of us simultaneously accessing the Internet.

This is a lovely homely hotel which I recommend. It is let down by the finishing touches - door handles about to fall off, some power cuts, and we had a blocked shower - all of these were dealt with quickly when we told the staff.

Room Tip: Around the pool is ideal for being sociable.

Dear Bradley,

Thank you for staying with us and posting your feedback. Our lodge is in secluded area, only a 10 km from Arusha, near a large flower farm. The main house is from colonial times and the guest cottages were designed to match its style. The grounds are very extensive, with manicured lawns and beautiful plants. As you mention, the large, enticing swimming pool is one of the main features of our property, as well as the nicely decorated cottages and ambiance at the indoor & outdoor dining venues. We have now installed solar energy devices in the rooms, which can be regulated individually to provide light, even if the electricity is off. There is also a powerful generator that will switch on within minutes of a power cut. We hope to host you again in the future. Karibu tena.

We booked this property especially based on the photos shown on websites such as TripAdvisor and Booking.com
We were very disappointed when we arrived as it is nothing like what you see on the websites. The grounds especially around the pool were messy and not kept well. Gardens around rooms were overgrown. The tennis court was overgrown and abandoned as was the spa treatment areas that are advertised. These were completely derelict and condemned.
The rooms were very basic though they advertise 'luxury accommodation'
Relatively clean but really needed some maintenance.
The food was also fairly basic. Advertise 4 course dinner but they have apparently changed it now to only a 3 course. I asked how much the dinner was and was told $25. Then on day of departure was billed $30.00 per dinner. Was then told by someone else that it was $25 but now $30 and was a 4 course but now only 3 course.
We chatted with the Manager who was nice but advised ' yes the owners really need to spend some money to bring it back to its former glory'. Not wrong there!!!
He took us for a short trip to their sister property - I cannot recall the name-
This was so much nicer. Lawns and gardens manicured, properly staffed restaurant and well stocked bar
Comfortable rooms by the look of what we saw.
I can not understand why they would not just close the Arusha Safari Lodge and place all bookings and guests at this property. Was so much nicer.

The staff were friendly and helpful to the best of their capabilities. It's not there fault the property is so run down.
Internet was basic, slow and only around the main area. The power cut out most of the day and usually only back on after 6pm

Overall totally disappointed. I also emailed the office administration I booked through on two occasions and to this day have not even received a reply.!!!

Our safari commenced at Arusha Coffee Lodge - now this is 'Luxury'
Don't advertise luxury if you are not.

I really DO NOT recommend this place at all. Waste of money and not worth it at all

Shame because it would have once been a lovely place.

Dear Robbo,

We are truly sorry your stay at our lodge did not meet your expectations. Our lodge is located in a large estate, surrounding by old-growth trees, colorful bougainvillea and green lawns, housing 7 individual cottages and 2 rooms in the main building. The polo club was founded here in 1995 and only recently, was it converted into a lodge. In recent months, we have done a lot of refurbishing. The lodge is under new management with ample experience in luxury properties. Regarding your comment of mailing the office administration, please contact our reservations department at reservations@moivaro.com. Guest feedback is the best tool to gauge our performance, build on our strengths and improve on our weaknesses. Asante sana.

A lovely start to our Tanzanian safari. We were made most welcome by the staff who were still waiting with towels and a cold drink after midnight when we arrived tired after problems with our connecting flight! Our lodge was very pleasant and the grounds and outdoor sitting area was lovely, especially after dark when the fires are lit.

The lodge is very secluded and is situated at the end of a very long and bumpy track so expect to experience the Tanzanian massage in your jeep!

Dear Brindley,

On behalf of our small team of staff at Arusha Safari Lodge, thank you for staying with us and posting your review online. We are very pleased you enjoyed your time here, starting with a warm reception in the middle of the night! Our spacious cottages are different in design, built in the classic colonial style, with modern comforts, of course. As you point out, our grounds are ample, carpeted with manicured lawns and indigenous trees. Sitting in the gazebo by the pool or in the main house den by the fire, guests can unwind and enjoy peace and tranquility. We hope you will stay with us again in the future. Karibu tena.

We stayed in Arusha Safari Lodge for 1 night in May 2015. The property is beautiful. On arrival we informed the manager that we do not eat beef. Also since we were travelling with 2 children we required child friendly food.
We were informed that there was only beef for dinner and that the only other option was some pasta.
The pasta was horrible and barely edible.
We asked for a cup of tea in the evening for which we were charged. We stayed in many hotels during our trip to Serengeti and all either had a tea service in the rooms or at the reception.
Does not seem to be professionally managed.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same but have not been maintained in a while

Dear Anjali,

Thank you for staying with us at Arusha Safari Lodge. Our lodge is located in a large estate, the former polo club. The buildings are classical colonial architecture, including a main house, hosting the restaurant and reception, plus seven detached cottages, each different in design and décor. Manicured green lawns and trees cover the grounds and a large, enticing swimming pool between the main house and cottages, provides a great option to relax, whether at the lounge chairs or gazebo with bar next to it. Our management has changed in recent months, and we have invested in refurbishing and upgrading the property and services. Karibu tena.

My husband and I live in Arusha and I booked it for my husband's birthday specifically because I had been told they had a great chef and we wanted to spend the day by the pool relaxing the next day free of our children.

Unfortunately the pool had no water in it which we had not been told about before we arrived. When I mentioned something to man showing us to our room, he said they could drive us to another property of theirs with a pool 20mins away, but the whole idea was to get to the this place and relax not traipse across town.

I was hoping dinner would be good enough to salvage the trip but the food was barely average. Edible but nothing special. When we asked for a big bottle of water we were told they only had small ones, so I asked for 4 so we had water to take back to our room as we had drunk the 2 provided before dinner. We were brought only one bottle and told the others would be brought to our room later. They never arrived and when I went to the main lodge the next morning to ask for them, they still did not have any new bottles. Eventually someone was sent to the shop to buy some.

During breakfast a lady who I assume was a manager (I don't know as she never introduced herself), approached us and apologized for the mix up before hand. I assumed she was talking about the water incident but just as I was about to say it had been solved she starting saying that there was a family with the name Andrews and looked at my husband to say "and your name is Andrew too." My husband's name is Cai. When I pointed this out she just giggled and walked off, leaving me wondering what had happened to the Andrews how many other mix-ups they'd had?

On a positive note they did let us keep our room until 2pm the next day for no extra charge so that was appreciated.

Dear Benagirl83,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. We apologize for not providing you with the water bottles during your dinner that evening. Indeed, there was miscommunication between the new waiter and the housekeeping person, who manages the bottled water. Regarding our manager's interaction the following morning, there seemed to have been some degree of misunderstanding. Jane did not mean to be impolite in any way with the casual approach to you. Our managers, as well as the rest of our staff, are always friendly and accommodating and we are pleased your late check-out request was easily arranged.
