“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

I stayed at the Outpost Lodge before and after a Tanzanian safari. The hotel is set in beautiful, lush and tropical grounds and the accommodation which was part of an old house fits in well. The rooms are spacious and the shower hot which was particularly important after nights spent camping on safari. The hotel was able to cook up an African feast when we returned for our last night and it was delicious. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms were clean if a little worn. The A block rooms are newer and in better condition. The S block rooms are closer to the road and barking dogs so would recommend another part of the hotel (M was good) if you want a peaceful night's sleep. Internet only works in the restaurant and pool areas. Would recommend this hotel if staying in Arusha before and after climbing the mountain or safari.

Rooms were large clean and basic but with comfy beds after a long safari. 4 star for Africa rating compared to worldwide however it would probably only rate a 2.
The shower however in room A7 electrocuted me as it had a fault in the dodgy heating wire attached to the shower head! When we returned from our second camp we were give a free apology up grade. The shower here was nice and hot with good flow!
Other than that the food was really very good but getting it was really slow, don't be in a hurry to eat here!
Breakfast was very basic and definitely not the best.
Set in beautiful surroundings we enjoyed our 2 days here between Safari's. Definitely one of the best hotels in Arusha.

Room Tip: Upstairs in A block is good. No rooms had air con just fans and nets.

we stayed here for a night after 8 days safari camping. A really nice oasis. Great service , nice rooms. Our only regret was that we didn't stay for 2 nights. A great place if you are returning from
safari and need to stay over in Arusha or before departing on Safari .

With my travel mates we made a direct booking at Outpost Lodge via email.
Reception desk was very responsive and accepted our request a few months ahead without even asking for advance payment. They also offered us an airport transfer and were flexible with last minute changes of our arrival time.

There was a small misunderstanding of the number of nights since our arrival at 5 am, which we we told via email would not be charged but in practice we were asked to pay that night.

I liked very much the hotel area with the pieceful garden, restaurant and pool corner.
WIFI was a bit weak in the rooms but excellent at the restaurant and the bar.

We spent two nights before our trek and two after it. Our luggage was stored free of charge.
If you're leaving before breakfast time, you can request to have your breakfast packed the previous evening.

Both rooms I occupied were in perfect condition. They resemble little houses with own veranda in front. I liked that there was an electric kettle and tea. Neat rooms, comfortable beds and mosquito nets (there we none in mid October). The roof was a bit thin and one can hear the rain or wind but I liked that too. Bathroom facilities were in good shape, clean, sufficient running hot water.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Outpost Lodge is popular with trekkers and safari makers, but I can recommend it too for a quiet break in Arusha.

Great place! I stayed in 3 different hotels in Arusha and this lodge was the best address I have been!

- The rooms are spacious with TV, van, net and hot shower with good pressure. Each of them has a few chairs and a table outside for whose who wish to read or have a drink in a more intimate area.

- Excellent facilities: Internet, swimming pool, bar with great cocktails, luggages storage, computer, laundry etc.

- The restaurant serves divers kind of food from local, Indian to European. Avoid the pizzas and if you are not too tired from your day I will recommend to eat outside as the food is the only disappointing aspect of this place (bear in mind that hotels and restaurants in Arusha are often two different companies). Good addresses within walking distance from Outpost lodge are: Blue Heron (open at Lucy everyday or Fridays and Saturdays only for dinner), Le Jacaranda or Mango Tree (good bar too especially on Saturdays).

If you are looking for a great place to stay for a good price I would advice you to book a room there. It is often fully booked as safari companies and Team Kilimanjaro use it for their guests so try to book it as early as you can.

Our safari company booked this accommodation for us pre-safari. My partner & I were expecting the company to book something a little bit nicer. The toilet didn't flush properly, the shower area was dirty & the water wouldn't drain away quickly so I was showering in a puddle of water. We immediately reported this to the staff & someone came around & supposedly fixed it but the problem wasn't resolved at all. Due to the bathroom area looking so unclean & not draining properly, we showered in sandals the following morning. Had very little sleep as dogs from a nearby property persistently barked throughout the night (sounded like a dog kennel) and then at 4am Muslim music was played for an hour (unsure if this came from hotel or neighbours). Also, no drinking water was supplied on our arrival. In all other hotels there are always at least 2 bottles of water supplied free of charge. Here, we had to find the bar area to purchase it. The breakfast selection was minimal, with omelettes & fruit. On a positive note, after dinner time on the first night there were acrobats who performed magnificent feats & were a pleasure to watch, mosquito nets were supplied, the garden & pool areas were lovely & Barclay bank is nearby.

We arrived to Kilimanjaro airport late at night and only stayed here for one night. Rooms were good, bed was comfortable and had mosquito nets. The bathroom with hot shower was also good, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was ok. The Outpost Lodge was perfect for us to get some sleep, a hot shower and some breakfast before beginning the safari.
