I read a short description of the place before the visit. Then I spotted the place on my way to the Taichung train station, and wanted to take a look and snap a photo. By the time, I got inside the store, I fell in love with this historical building and the store and it's ice cream parlour and the cafe. Great ice cream, and great tea! Oh, should try the ginger tea, the almond tea and also the fruit tea!

We had dinner at this nice restaurant, which is at 2/F of the building. The price is acceptable in view of the quality of the food. There are also many cakes and candy worth buying as souvenir. Recommended to at least give a try for its ice-cream which always attract long queue outside of the shop.

Tip 1: We didnt know what was coming so we went and was surprised that Taichung has such unique place in the city. I guess this place is equivalent to London's Harrods or Fortnum & Mason. It has a very unique 70s style that attracts a lot of youngster.

Tip 2: This place sells the famous chinese biscuits call Sun Biscuits/Dawncake. It is a famous product in Taichung.

Tip 3: Trust me, we have tried so many different Sun biscuits in Taichung, this is by far the best place to get a few boxes of Sun biscuits for your family as a gift. Mind you, they are not cheap though.

Tip 4: We headed upstair for afternoon tea and only found out that the lowest minimum spend for each person is 380NT. We felt a little bit duped by it but we thought it is a holiday for everyone so we ordered some yummy food. We were able to order their sun biscuit and it was delicious! The dishes on the menu are mainly western-style food, it is not suitable for old people who prefers chinese food.

Tip 5: The interior of this place is very unique and i strongly recommend everyone to visit, once is enough though.

Tip 6: If you bought too many sun biscuits, they can help you send a package back home. Very convenient!

We visited this place during the weekend before the new year and it was so crowded. You could see long line of people waiting outside for the ice cream while many customers inside the store buying tea and pastries.

We were lucky to have been able to get seated in the restaurant upstair without reservation on that day. We ordered the 8 kind of Taiwanese snack sampling, an ice cream sundae and a pot of their special tea. While we enjoyed very much the whole atmosphere inside such a historical site that looked like a library, we also enjoyed very much on all the items we ordered... the ice cream was so delicious (no wonder the line was so long on the street), the tea which we ended up buying and the very interesting snack sampling. I would highly recommend this place for anyone traveling to Taichung and I think it is a must visit place.

We visited 宮原眼科in late Nov 2012. It's 台中新地标 (Taichung's latest F&B attraction). It's located within walking distance from the TaiChung Train Station. The entire interior deco looks like a grand library complete with bookshelves and high ceiling. But instead of books, they are selling 凤梨酥 (Pineapple tarts) & other Taiwanese pastries. Their gourmet chocolates comes in the form of sheets where the staff will use a hammer to chip off the pieces and weigh them for you. What's most interesting is their innovative & unique packaging for every item in the store. A great place to shop for your gifts & great photo-taking opportunity.

That's not all - their 眼科冰淇淋 (Ice cream) is also worth mentioning. Yum! Before you order, please make sure you find a seat out front (cos there ain't many around); otherwise you will end up standing around with the waffle cup/bowl ice cream. Their toppings are very generous which include their famous 凤梨酥, chocolate balls, cheese cake etc. They even have a chart solely for chocolate ice cream to indicate the degree of chocolate concentration you like for your chocolate ice cream. Cool! You will find lots of local Taiwanese teenagers and young couples hanging around enjoying this beautiful dessert.

A good stop on your way to/from the train station.
