N21°56'42.54" E120°47'56.36" On a very busy stretch of road in the middle of Kenting Village, this Italian restaurant is renowned for its piazzas. But why eat pizza in Taiwan when we eat the best pizzas every year in Italy? Lot of reasons. We didn’t find the poor night market appealing (very busy and very Ibiza), Kenting Town restaurants cater for large groups, also serve as bars with loud music in the evening and we didn’t find any Taiwanese/Chinese restaurant nearby (only pizza, pasta, Mexican and Thai).
Chez Papa is a cosy restaurant, with a huge variety of pizzas and pastas. The back of the restaurant is still a work in progress; so don’t mind the building materials. Papa left the pizzas to another French cook and he did a nice job with the two electrical convection microwave ovens. The pizza crust was satisfactory. Not the best ingredients but well baked. The pizza stuffing was satisfactory too, but not all made of fresh ingredients. The quattro stagioni lacked the mushrooms and the pizza calamari was just fine. If they serve – according to Rough Guide - the best pizzas of the island at Chez Papa, any Italian chef with a real oven would simply knock Chez Papa of this first spot. But in Kenting Village Chez Papa is still an excellent choice.
