We were looking for a homestay in Hualien, Taiwan, when we came across the idyllic setting that Blue Ocean Resort offered. Our 3-day, 2-night stay over there was without a hint of regret.
Blue Ocean Resort is a new 3-storey house fronting the Pacific Ocean on the east coast of Taiwan near Hualien City (15-minute drive). Among similar homestays along the same stretch of the highway, Blue Ocean is undoubtedly the newest and coziest. It is also a stone's throw from the Hualien's Farglory Ocean Park (a theme park).
As with most homestays in Taiwan, there are limited rooms, which gives the feeling of exclusiveness, privacy and retreat. We were also impressed by the hospitality that the owner of the homestay offered. The room we stayed in was immaculate and well-kept. With cable-TV and the ocean view, I guess we can't ask for anything more. Our only grouse is probably the homestay's proximity to the highway where the noise of heavy trucks blaring down the down slope early in the morning may rouse you from your beauty sleep.
Other than that, we also engaged the services of a cabbie, Mr. Huang, who incidentally is the husband of the owner of Blue Ocean. His services was impeccable as well. With just NT$2,800 (USD$86) for 2 days, he ferried us from the Hualien Train Station to the homestay (and back), as well as took us on a tour of the famed Taroko National Park and Hualien City.
For those looking for a comfortable retreat in Hualien, you should give Blue Ocean a try!
