You will notice this dumplings and bao stall by the tall bamboo baskets being steamed by the staff, and also the crowd around the place. But be forewarned ! That's only 1 Gongzheng Baozi and another similar eatery just beside it, is feeding on the fame of Gongzheng by benefitting from the spillover. Because what you get from Gongzheng is better, naturally the queue is longer. And the food is really affordable.
My private tour guide advised us that the longer wait to get a table is worth it and he was right!
So for those new to Hualien, how do you differentiate the 2 eateries which are like a mirror image (even the prices are the same)-
1) Gongzheng is the one on the left (nearer the main road)
2) Gongzheng staff wears white, with red apron. (the shop beside, wear red shirts with white apron). For easy memorizing, remember : Red on White (ROW) for the real McCoy.
Have a great meal...without damaging your wallet.
