This is a difficult review because this cafe has beans literally from around the world. They have a five dot rating from me only because of this. Where else in Hsinchu can you find such selection of beans? Kenya, Colombia, Italy, France, you name it, there's about 35 bins of different coffees waiting to be roasted to perfection.
The service is indifferent. There's this feeling that they could care less if you're there or not. Buying two bags of coffee? Just ordering a latte? It's as though you're kind of inconveniencing the owners of this seemingly family run business.
If you scare easily, let me warn you about the dog that hides behind the counter under the staircase. It is likely that he (or she) will start yelping at you before you see her. What's interesting though is that they don't tell the dog to be quiet, instead they eye you with contempt.
One would think that with Starbucks only a couple of doors down with its own assortment of international coffee, that this cafe would raise its standard of customer service, but no, not even close. Consider yourself among the elite if you get a smile out of them.
All the same, their coffee is great. I think they know this. And I think they make it known that they know you know this, too.
