“Wholly unremarkable”
Reviewed November 5, 2010

Wholly unremarkable hotel used by tour groups. We stayed there one night and ate there that evening. The food was indifferent, with a bulk standard buffet of typical Syrian dishes. I had stomach problems afterwards, but it would be unfair to definitely pin the cause on this meal though I was suspicious.

The rooms are small and rather dingy. Could do with some attention. We had an electric point not properly attached to the wall.

Much as I try to write balanced reviews I cannot think of anything positive to say about this hotel. It was not an awful experience but really had little to recommend it.

Modern functional hotel in modern but vibrant city. Standard rooms a little small with rather boring decor but bathrooms clean and good size. Nice pool which closed at 5pm to allow restaurant to open around it with lovely jasmine scented garden around. Nice arcades of shops in hotel. Restaurant buffet which was adequate although not exciting. Said to be the best available in Homs and many groups use it for overnight stop.

very bad stay at the safir hotel.
i don't know where to start in describing this hotel.
1-when we arrived we discovered that they have made a mistake with our reservation ( they reserved 2 rooms less then what we needed , after a long debate we finally got a room.
2-and now was the big shock, we entered something cubicle that shouldn't even be called a room.very small with very trashy furniture and that unfortunately was our room
this hotel is overpriced and i do not recommend anyone to stay there.

During our 10 day holiday in Syria we stayed in seven hotels and the Safir in Homs was easily the worst. Terrible overcrowded small rooms with tiny high windows. The main restaurant was closed therefore we had to eat either in rhe room or share a tepid buffet with sixty noisey Italiens. The food was terrible and as usual with food that had been lying around for hours tummy bugs set in the following morning. Considering also te high cost this hotel was a rip off. The other six hotels were all above average and no health problems afterwards.

This is our second visit to Syria and the second time we’ve stayed here. I hated it last time but it’s really difficult to avoid staying in Homs travelling from Aleppo to Palmyra or Damascus and there really isn’t the choice of hotels in Homs or in any other town close by. We’d booked two rooms for one night and, upon arrival, were told there was only one available. We kicked up a fuss and they ended up having to kick someone else out of a room (a group that hadn’t yet checked in). It’s hard to know whether the Safir management is totally incompetent or just the management at this hotel. The rooms were depressing- very 70s furnishings and, as with last time, the main restaurant was closed for a function so we ate in the Italian restaurant (we don’t want to eat Italian food in Syria- I don’t know about most travellers!) On checking out the cost was higher than I was given in the email confirmation from them as “that was last year’s price”! I just don’t think they get this hotel management business.

As a single traveller in a group tour, I often get very small rooms, and that was the case in Homs. As a result, walk space between the furniture, walls, etc is cramped. This was worsened by the fact that the bed supports stuck out an inch or 2 from the end of the mattress/box springs, and I broke a little toe walking around the bed.

The restauran'ts food was very good.

Clean, efficient and centrally located. Friendly and professional welcome. Good buffet in the morning for breakfast. Upmarket toiletries. Nice parking area just in front of hotel. Right heating, not stuffy. Space for impromptu meetings in lobby. Value for money.
