Myself and my daughter stayed with Raja and Charmaine for three weeks, backpacking around inbetween to Kandy and Hikkaduwa. We found them very helpful and genuine, especially when you dont know what to pay for things like Tuk tuks or organised trips. The Sri Lankan breakfasts (extra) where delicious and generous.
It was like having a resident guide to draw on when needed in a non biased manner. You wont get that at a large hotel!
The rooms are absolutely spotless and everything worked as it should. Wi-fi was useful too! There were NO mosquitos thanks to window screening. But it does get hot without AC so unless you are on a budget i would recommend a room with AC. .
It is situated at the bottom (south) end of Lewis Place so it is away from the main tourist strip, but i prefered it that way. Can be a pain when returning in a tuk tuk because it doesnt have a name that they recognise to give the driver. So we just gave the nearist hotel name (Ceylonica) or the St Sebastian statue which is very close.
You ought to be paying between 800 and 1000rs in a tuk tuk to get from the airport. There are only taxi cabs directly outside the airport so you may have to walk a little, but not too far. Always agree a price BEFORE moving off and make sure that is for the tuk tuk and not each person, as was tried with me..
Lovely quiet place to stay, i would recommend.
