This is a lovely hotel with beautiful views. My husband and I were gutted that we only stayed there for one night. The staff were friendly and the surroundings were stunning! I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family!

Very nice, well equipped villas with own pool between a canal and the river. Service is great! Beach is in walking distance, city center by tuktuk. Prices for food and beverages are in $ and upscale. Very good breakfast - try the wood apple juice.

Thank you for reviewing your stay and for touching on so many elements including the beauty, the great service, the villas, the private pools, the setting, and the proximity to the ocean. Thanks too for noting the excellence of the meals and that the upscale meals.

We 're glad you liked the woodapple juice. The color is not the most beautiful, but the taste is remarkable. We are fortunate to be able to serve a number of other fresh juices made from exotic fruits including pineapple, passion fruit, and soursop. The tamarind juice we serve as a welcome drink also has quite a fan base.

What a stay! Waterland was everything that we were expecting and more. We had read many reviews and we were really excited about spending our first two nights in Sri Lanka here. From the moment we stepped out of the taxi we were given the best service you could ever want. Every staff member knew who you were and
made conversations and service personal. For the small amount of rooms there were, there was a a lot of staff to give you there undivided attention.
We stayed in the Elephant suite which was beautiful and very comfortable. Our balcony was right on the river and we had a clean big pool with a great view.
Both nights we were able to sit on our balcony and have a private dinner which was candle lit with a view of the river and all the natural sounds as our backing music it was tasty and very romantic.
We both had spa treatments on the floating spa which I would highly recommend. Very experienced and the setting couldn’t have been more peaceful and relaxing.
During the stay I celebrated my birthday and the hotel went above and beyond to make my day very special
I was greeted by staff and guests at breakfast with a homemade cake and lots of balloons ( breakfast is different every day and very good) and then a boat ride on the river which was decorated with banners and balloons. It is a birthday that I will never forget and also a stay that I will fondly remember
Thank you Waterland, I hope we can make a trip back soon.

Learning about guest experiences is a treat. It gives us a terrific sense of accomplishment.

The staff and I seek to ensure that each guest has an experience such as the one you have described. We're glad we were able to make your birthday a memorable one.

We're glad that we lived up to our reputation and that the meals, spa treatments, setting, comfort, and view were so much to your liking. As you note, much of the credit goes to the staff. It's a pleasure to work with so many colleagues who share my vision for what a stay at Waterland should be.

Thank you choosing Waterland for your birthday and for taking the time to write so extensively about your stay.

We look forward to your return.

This truly is a 5 star establishment. Staff is very responsive. Interior design is so modern and sleek. Wonderful having your own private pool and deck to hang out. Bathroom design is very cool. The blue lighting is very nice, makes the pool and room look very cool. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly but will also keep out of your way.

The food on site is not authentic Sri Lankan spicy which they note in your menu but they can make it truly spicy if you ask. Personally I'm happy they keep that in mind. We felt the food is really good and they will do whatever they can to accommodate any requests.

We did one of the canal tours which was nice at sunset.

The massage on the barge was interesting. It sinks slightly so when you're lying there's a bit of a decline towards your head. Maybe purposeful design? The masseuse is very respectful and professional. But I do think having more of an expert on site would be better. But that's my only criticism of the entire experience.
Overall if you are looking for a boutique experience and not a run of the mill resort this is the place for you. We highly recommend it.

Thank you very much for staying at Waterland. We are sincerely dedicated to making the stay of each guest a magical one and it gives us great pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your stay so thoroughly.

Additional thanks for writing so comprehensively and thoughtfully about various aspects of your stay: the design, the private pool, the meals, the boat ride on the canal, and the staff.

Your comments about the floating spa are astute. They are also very welcome. Such feedback helps us better identify areas in which can improve. The barge on which the spa sits is tilting because the water level in the river is low and the barge is beached. While that arrangement has its advantages, it is not intentional. We have succeeded in keeping the dining barge level and will apply a similar solution to keep the floating spa level. Your observations about the massage are also insightful. We are recruiting for a spa therapist who has a bit more experience working with both western style massages and Ayurvedic massages.

We hope that your visit to Sri Lanka went well and that we may someday welcome you back.

We spent our first night in Sri Lanka at the Waterland. It was a perfect choice as we loved the peaceful river side setting . Our room was spacious and beautifully kitted out . And the view over the dip pool and patio was lovely. The hotel staff could not have been more welcoming and thoughtful. We only wished that we could have stayed longer.

Negombo now has over 700 accommodations. It's exciting for us to have so many visitors choosing to start or end their trips at Waterland. In part, it seems that visitors choose to stay at Waterland because of the things you observed: the tranquil scenic setting, the spaciousness, the design and decor, the chance to have a refreshing swim in a private plunge pool. Important as those are, I think it's the graciousness of the staff that really stands out. Thank you for noting their dedication.
