Silver Sands Hotel Negombo ,right on the beach, family run I think. Our last 2 days in Sri Lanka after a 5 day island tour with a driver and MPV. Silver Sands has about 20 rooms some air conditioned at about double the price of a non air conditioned. our air con room was 6000 rupee with breakfast, the restaurant open all day and food was really good and not expensive. The main reason we took this hotel was that they had rooms with single bed and double bed. We found that most hotel rooms only had big double beds and they could not understand its not normal for same sex friends to share same bed . So Silver Sands got our cash. There is a small garden with sunloungers fenced off from the beach perfect for a long lazy day in the sun and only 50mtr from the indian ocean for a cooling swim. would stay again

Room tip: all rooms that we saw where ok

This hotel is by far the best value for money, it is also better than hotels 3x more expensive.
The location is great, right on the beach and 100m or so from main road.
The layout is good, try for a room on the ground floor, closer to the beach, wifi, restaurant etc.
Big rooms, clean, really good shower with hot water.
Restaurant is in a good location and breakfast was normal with fresh juice.

If there was a rating of good; that is what I would rate this basic ok hotel. The building has a colonial fading feel to it. The staff is friendly and immediately helpful. The room was clean and ours on the second floor was a reasonable size with a balcony. The furniture is also fading as is the building which made it seem not as clean as it really was. The wifi was a bit 'if'y in the rooms. The shower was good with plenty of hot water. A good location on the beach with a private fenced in area keeping the hustlers at a bit of a distance if that bothers you, as it often does to new comers to developing countries. Lots of restaurants in the area. I had Sri Lankan breakfast here which was tasty for those who can tolerate spicy breakfasts. I can't say anything else about the restaurant. All in all, although a bit overpriced for what we got, it was an ok hotel for us for one, two or three nights. We arrived in the evening and stayed two nights which was enough. One more would have been ok. All these reviews are are both objective and subjective. Hard to rate at times.

Silver Sand is right on the Negombo beach, a very friendly, pleasant no-frills hotel. We had an excellent stay, nice room, good food at a good price, clean, spacious and very helpful staff - although there was some variation... Well worth the money, but do not expect a five star hotel. I think it is difficult to rate hotels - can't compare the service of a budget hotel with that of a four star - so i grade relative to the hotel price. They also arranged a car and driver for a four days trip to the cultural triangle and also an excursion to the nearby nature reserve at an OK cost. Reliable and trustworthy. Definitely recommended!

I stayed at the hotel on arrival and on leaving...taking advantage of the Airport Transfers. Both my flights were at awkward hours and there was no problem although a bit expensive. The hotel is an old classic with a nice garden and clean beach right in front. The room was clean and quiet, the restaurant as well, pricing was a bit high but Negombo seems all around a bit too expensive once you visit the rest of the country. I would stay again as everyone was friendly and helpful
