Totally different league to the rest of Negombo.....fine wine, great food and presentation ...service and ambience all superb.....but then at 10,000 rupees per head it should be..... Worth it though

Black Coral is probably the best bet for a nice dinner in Negombo. Great food (and lots of exciting small-dishes) and the staff here is the most comfortable I've experienced here in Sri Lanka. The prices can also compete with the not-so-nice restaurants in the road, if you don't pick the imported australian meat which is a bit expensive. I can recommend the lamb rack, the seafood fricassee with pasta, and the special Sri Lankan seafood-meal now have forgotten the name of. Very, very quiet. Up to you to decide if thats good or bad, but I think it is an oasis from the noisy street

Thank Harald M

We were staying at the Jetwing Beach so decided to try this fine dining restaurant. We had a nice meal, but the Black Coral was let down by a disappointing ambience (we were the only people there!) and over-attentive service (asking how we liked every course, barely a moment after we'd had our first mouthful). The food was generally very good, especially the desserts, but one starter was presented badly and tasted bland, while the lamb was not cooked medium as requested. On balance, the Black Coral would be worth trying for a treat or as a change from the other more down-to-earth restaurants nearby.

This was the highlight of our epicurean adventures whilst on holiday in Negombo! The restaurant was very comfortable, with subdued lighting and pleasant background music. The staff were very attentive, cool face towels were produced immediately, and quickly followed by an impressive wine list and an equally attractive menu. The wines were presented for approval and accepted, although I fear I shocked the Head Waiter by asking him to put my red wine in a container of chilled water ! ( Must be the Philistine in me. Don't particularly like warm wine ) We had starters, main course and dessert, all beautifully cooked and presented. We enjoyed the little bit of theatre when the waiters, with immaculate timing, removed the covers off the main course dishes at the same moment, to a chorus of oohs and aahs !
Some loverly little touches as well. Before the starter we were each offered a very tasty prawn with a small glass of orange juice, and then before the main course a small and soothing sorbet to cleanse the palate. Simple, but very effective extras.
The final pleasant surprise was the cost! The total, for an adult family of four, including three bottles of very good wine and a couple of liquer coffees came to £130. We allow ourselves one special night out whilst on holiday and this was it. Money well spent! This was dining at its very best. It gave the ladies an opportunity to really dress up and enjoy a meal in very pleasant surroundings. The Black Coral is an absolute 'must do ' !!!

Good ambiance and fantastic seafood. The beef steak was below par and over cooked. Stick to sea food here.
