Hilary and Buddika's warmth and hospitality is second to none. Serendib is spotlessly clean and feels like home from home. We can only endorse what others have said about the amount and quality of Buddika's famous breakfasts and as we stayed for 28 nights had the pleasure of sampling them many times. We have stayed in Negombo 12 times and travelled around Sri Lanka and Serendib without doubt is definitely the best B&B we have known.
Thank you Hilary and Buddika ( also Fergus and Cleo ) for making our holiday so enjoyable.

The previous glowing reviews are all true. Due to an issue with my flights my previously mid morning arrival became a late night arrival but Buddika and Hilary made sure I was met and brought comfortably 'home' to Serendib. For that is what it feels like- coming home.
Breakfast is suitably man sized and you definitely dont need to eat until dinner but it sets you up for a good exploration of Negombo.
Unable to accommodate my last minute request for a further night they recommended another local place to stay and Buddika accompanied me to inspect that room (not as nice as Serendib but more than adequate) before my departure.
My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean and you feel very secure and comfortable. I am so impressed I am staying there on my last day in Sri Lanka and some friends who are coming over in a few months will be getting my recommendation to stay here. Serendip is definitely a high point!

The welcome from Hilary and Buddika was very warm and more helpful than you can imagine. And I must say the other residents we met here were very nice to.
Just to mention the breakfast was top notch, more than you really need to eat but so delicious you can't help yourself. Thank you for introducing me to lime marmalade. I want to make my own now. If you've never had it give it a try. How someone can say this is expensive is very surprising. This is very good value for money. Other staff in the guest house very nice and helpful to.
So helpful and a great way to be introduced to Sri Lankan hospitality. Only constructive criticism the show in the upstairs room needs an overhaul.

We stayed with Hilary & Buddika for two nights early in February. Our luggage went astray at Doha, so Hilary and Buddika could not have been more helpful, jaded as we were. The accommodation is superb, super clean inside and out with relaxing terrace and pool. The best breakfasts ever! We got excellent detailed advice about onward travel. Sadly, my wife became ill later, and we had to return via Negombo earlier than expected. Again, H & B were reassuring, supportive, practical. They found us accommodation nearby (they were fully booked) .It is when things go wrong that you need friends in faraway places. Hilary and Budikka were just great, and we owe them a deep debt of gratitude. No wonder they are no.1 in Negombo. They set a high standard which other places do not always match.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very good indeed.

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to write the review we appreciate it. Happy we made you comfortable after a long tiring flight, our staff work hard to ensure you have a good sleep after a journey.

I am surprised you find our rates at 4,600 ( 27Euro, £23, 36$ US) for an AC room, two course breakfast included in the price, free water, tea, coffee, access to the kitchen, too expensive......however you enjoyed your stay with us & arrived home safely.

Best wishes,
Hilary & Buddika

What can I say about the Serendib that hasn't already been said. Plenty actually. We had 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and 2 more before flying home. In between we travelled widely for 11 days. We had such a warm welcome on our arrival that first day we immediately felt "at home". We had a great room, then in the morning we had our first Buddika breakfast. Wow full English with a Sri Lankan twist, what a triumph! We had pretty good food on our travels, but none of the breakfasts came close. Great bacon, sausages, eggs any way you like, tomatoes and Buddika's amazing slightly spiced potatoes and lashing of toast, butter, jam, marmalade etc. Followed by fresh fruit, tea, coffee and fruit juice. All perfectly cooked and served with a smile, while sitting in the sun looking over the lovely pool and garden area. What a way to start the day! Buddika gave such valuable advice on what there is to see and do on our travels and offered us such a good.deal we decided against travelling around on buses and trains and booked his driver/guide for the whole trip. Indika the driver was a mine of information. OK his English needs polishing up a bit, which he's working on, but we were able to understand him just fine. There is nothing about Sri Lanka that the guy doesn't know and absolutely nothing was too much trouble for him. You couldn't find anyone better and nicer to not only show you the best bits of this lovely country, while always giving several options to choose from, but also to tell you all about anything you might be interested in about the way of life and the history etc. Our personal highlights were the 2 safari's we went on. One in Yala where we got great shots of a leopard stalking deer among many other things. A brilliant day, just the 2 of us and the Jeep driver/guide, even he was surprised we saw so much when we did most of it in torrential rain and thunder. The other one was an elephant safari in Minneriya National park up in the Polonnaruwa District, what a day that was. But besides the safari's we filled every single day seeing so many diverse, interesting things we felt we'd been away for weeks. On top of that Indika knows all the right people and even though it was high season and all the high scoring Trip Advisor accommodation was booked up. He was always able to find us somewhere great to stay and also seems to know the best places to eat.
Then it was back to Serendib, where we were greeted like long lost friends and sat chatting to the lovely Hilary and Buddika about our experiences for a couple of hours. The pair of them just can't do enough for you. Hilary spent ages sorting out a problem I had paying for a rail fare and free tea and coffee are available whenever you want them, as well as water from the dispenser. In fact if you spend time in the pool/garden area during the day. Trays of tea or coffee and even occasional ice creams are likely to appear. The Serendib is located a 5 minute walk from the main street and about 10 minutes from the beach. It's a lovely sandy beach and if you go slightly to the right you can watch the fishing boats bringing in their catches in the morning, which is well worth doing. There's a few restaurants at the Serendib end of the street. One of the best of these was "Petit". Most of the restaurants are about 20 minutes walk, or a £1 Tuk Tuk ride at the other end of the main street, turn left from the Serendib turn. Our favourite was Kamlo, but get there early it gets very busy. Lords is pretty good to, but a bit over priced. All in all Sri Lanka is a great place to holiday and of all the many highlights the best of all was the Serendib.

Spent 4 nights here at the end of our Sri Lankan holiday and it was perfect. Hilary and Buddika make your stay wonderful and the Breakfasts as already mentioned by many reviewers are out of this world. Sets you up for the day and no need for lunch!. The rooms are spacious and all facilities available. The Tuk Tuk drivers they use are all reliable and give excellent value for money. Lovely pool to dip into and all in all a great experience. We had a very early morning flight and Buddika got up and ensured everything was ready and the transport was on time. A lovely personal touch. Thoroughly recommended and we will definately be back soon. If you are in the area, check Serendib guest house out, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Hilary and Buddika, finished our holiday off perfectly x
