We visited this hotel for lunch after a visit to Galle. It is very pretty and has an attractive terrace looking at the pool. Our lunch was good and the service attentive.
We planned to return for dinner one evening but the menu on the chosen evening was very limited (one choice!) and did not appeal to us.

This place is amazing. I can't find anything negative about it. The rooms feel genuine and are very comfortable. I really like that there's no TV in the rooms. Never had dinner here but the a-la carte breakfast was good and so was lunch. Very good but also very relaxed service and staff.

Thanks!

Good hotel 8/10. Good food, lovely room with loft bedroom, good service, very relaxed environment with a private feel about it. Galle is pretty with lovely views but not much to do.

The Hotel restaurant is very good, but along with most other institutions in Sri Lanka, you get what you are given, with very little choice! The bar was one of the better Hotel bars we encountered. For excellent food and a few rooms, try the Sun House just outside the town (300 rupees in a TukTuk), contact the owner, Geoffrey Dobbs.

This is a gorgeous place that's perfectly positioned. The manager (Oliver) couldn't have been more helpful and professional. He was great. The vibe is understated and cool and the ambiance very comfortable. The room/suite we had was huge and nicely decorated. The food was lovely and the attention to detail very impressive.Overall an excellent experience...with one exception.I had a touch of flu/bug and asked reception to get a Doctor round to see me.They called Dr De Silva who seemed plausible and reminded me he used to work at Gt Ormond St.He examined me and gave me antibiotics .He asked for £85 sterling for the 10 minute visit.I felt awful so I paid him.The next day a friend staying in a rented villa nearby called a doctor with a similar bug and was given the same antibiotics and a bill for $25 !!! I asked Oliver what on earth was going on.He called Dr De Silva who told him that £85 is the level of charge the English are used to.Oliver reminded him that this was not an appropriate answer and the Doc kept trying to wriggle out of matter.Oliver was brilliant and politely asked Dr De Silva a bunch of questions.First he answered that there was a call out fee then (after a while) added there was a consultancy fee as well.He said the drugs were English and therefore expensive but he still had a problem making the figures add up.Eventually the Doc offered to refund £15. This means I paid £70 when I should have paid around £15. Back in Colombo my local friends couldn't believe I'd been ripped off so badly.Whilst the hotel is excellent the Doctor they recommended has reflected badly on them.I advise them to find a more professional, less opportunistic Doctor who won't take advantage of the ignorance of foreign travellers. This experience left a bad taste that will take a while to go.Fab people.Fab place.Rip off Doctor...Beware!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

This is a great boutique hotel in a restored colonial mansion. Rooms are thoughtfully set out and furnished. We had an attic with a four poster and mosquito net. The hotel exudes calm and quiet and the pool is very pleasent. Food is excellent although the range of choices can be limited. The staff were superb and extremely helpful and very responsive. The manager Oliver was very attentive and helpful with recommendations for activities in and around Galle and further afield. We booked a car and driver for the five days following our stay and found the service very good.

I cannot fault the hotel, exquisite rooms, service and food.
Watch your belongings with the drivers the hotel hires for tours and transfers. They are booked externally and I had cash stolen from my handbag even though was assured everything was safe and looked after as we got out to take photos!!!
Hotel would not accept the feedback that one of there drivers would ever steal. Quite disappointed to feel that i was the one making it up !

This was our first stop in Sri Lanka - a 3 night stay after arriving in Colombo and taking a taxi down to Galle. From the complimentary drinks on arrival, to the striking colonial architecture, beautiful pool, lovely rooms (fan, a/c, mosquito nets), delicious food, excellent cocktails - it's difficult to fault the GFH. Service was great too (e.g. set dinner looked too big so they were happy for us to order mains only, happy to help arrange an onward transfer and advise on the next part of our trip). The only slight negatives were a slightly musty smell in our room and a lack of space to hang things (e.g. towels) in the room - but these were minor things and did not affect our enjoyment of the hotel. You pay for the experience (certainly by Sri Lankan standards), but we thought it was worth every penny. It really did feel like an oasis in the middle of the Fort - superb.
