“The worst hotel of our trip!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

The pictures of this hotel promised so much more than we got. The hotel was remodeling its upper floor and the workers started at 5.30 a.m. I do not need to sleep in, but this was too early. The exterior of the hotel is much nicer than the interior. The rooms are very dated and other than about a dozen bugs, there were three cockroaches in our room. There were stains in places that we did not understand (such as the lamp shade) but the fan could also use a good cleaning. The staff was very friendly though and I thought the food was ok. The location is alright, but I would definitely stay in Galle fort (not the Galle Fort hotel) since, for the price of the Lady Hill hotel, there are hotels that may be a little more basic but at least clean and you are close to pretty good restaurants.

Lady Hill Hotel, Galle, Sri Lanka, is ok for the traveller who just wants a base in which to explore. I stay there regularly as part of my business travel in this part of the world, so am there every couple of weeks. So I will be give you the honest `heads up` !! Food - better off going down town for choice. The prices are so cheap, that it`s not worth eating at the hotel, even though it includes the meal in the price !! The A/C in the rooms, works, but noisy, so better to just sleep with the thin sheet than to switch it on and have a restless night ! Language barriers are VERY prevalent; even though they can speak certain words, they still don`t seem to comprehend what you are talking about !! Sham, as it does cause irritation and problems. Girl on the front desk is the best one to talk to, the others are virtually clueless. As usual in this part of the world; there are lots of staff hanging around, but little or no supervision or motivation, so that is exactly what they do best.... stand around !!! The swimming pool is newly refurbished (infinity), but don`t expect perfection !! There are cracked tiles etc.. etc etc. OK for a quick refreshing dip, but that`s about it.
I was given the first of the "completely new refurbished rooms" (room 203), so can give you the report. At first glace, I was amazed, looks very contemporary, like something out of Best Homes Magazine, with LED lighting and a swish bathroom, but don`t let that fool you ! They have tried to look modern, but obviously got cheap unskilled labour, in to do the job. The thing that sticks in my mind the most is the cazy bathroom doors, thjat open the wrong way, which results in you having to be a contortionist and shimmy around the toilet, just to get in !1 Then there is the white pebbles in the shower tray recess, which make it impossible to stand in that area, so you have to do the spilts and redirect the shower somehow, to use it at all !!! Good try Lady Hill, but for $70 ++ US Dollars per night, you must be having a good old Sri Lankan laugh mateys...... On the plus side, it is conveniently located for the beach and town.

We would recommend staying in this hotel on a hill overlooking Galle. We stayed for one night during our two week Peregrine tour of Sri Lanka and enjoyed the rooftop restaurant with a superb view and good food. The swimming pool looked inviting but we had no time to try it out. Breakfast was served downstairs and was very good. The room was fairly small but was comfortable and had some very interesting old and beautifully crafted wooden shutters. There was some work being done on the entrance way, so the owners are obviously taking some care with this hotel.

Certainly not a 5 start place, but it was clean and folks were nice. The views from the roof terrace were great as was the view from the pool looking far out over the jungles. Rooms were nice, basic but better than average.
One of the best during my 30 days stay in Sri Lanka

We stayed here in April '12, and would recommend the hotel. The hotel is nicely located on a hill giving excellent views of the city, and with a lovely pool and fooftop bar. The service is good and friendly, and the hotel is good value in terms of rooms and environment. For those looking to stay in Galle on a reasonable budget, this ticks the box.

A real character type location with good views over Galle and a rooftop restaurant. Rooms are old but comfortable although my bathroom did have a broken shower support so had to hug the wall almost to get wet. Good bed though and no problems with bugs or insects and the hotel does have a pool. food was fine

My family and I spent a very enjoyable couple of days at this hotel and having been here a couple of years before we found it to be very refreshing once again. The hotel has undergone some very tasteful refurbishing and they have changed their concept into one of having you enter into a vintage Dutch, historic rustic type building and then walk through into a most futuristic styled room. The new remodeled rooms are excellent, with all the facilities one would need to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable. The rooftop restaurant at the highest point in Galle offers a breathtaking view of the city and having meals there is a marvelous experience. The food was exceptionally good, especially the Sri Lankan style rice & curry dishes and the chili crab.
Overall super value for money, we will definitely keep coming back.
