Spent three days on r and r after three weeks with the grandchildren. So pleasant and easy to walk round after the hectic noise of Unawatuna. Nice sense of colonial power in the walls and bastions and some tasteful shopping in eg Barefoot, Exotic Roots and Ibrahim's jewelry shop. Places to eat are plentiful and adequate though not much beyond perfunctory.
There are locals living and working there but many of the buildings belong to ex pats. It could end up pickled in aspic if developers are not careful to maintain businesses beyond shops and restaurants.
