We were invited to dinner at Closenberg by the owners? We had the most gracious host Mr Abeywardene and his on Emmanuel who joined us for dinner. The meal was prepared by one of the Emmanuels cousins who is one of the best chefs around.
Really enjoyed our dinner that night and will recommend Closenberg for its facilities, unique history and old style charm and first class meals

This is a fantastic location ideally for couples to enjoy the time who seek for more romance, and also for families to spend the vacation. The food was so Delicious and mouth watering and tempted a lot...I selected this hotel for our Honeymoon and for our Home coming function due to lot of comforts that this hotel offer...Thanks to the service and the hospitality of the staff, the quality and the variety of food and the surrounding, and pleasant looking rooms helped us to have an unforgettable Honeymoon stay and a exceptional Homecoming function.....

The service was outstanding not second to the beautiful hotel location....
If you are planning to visit galle,I would recommend this hotel to stay a few days and experience an unforgettable exceptional stay in Sri Lanka that worth the money you spend.

Room Tip: See the availability of a Sea view room....

Stayed there in 2011, daughter & I were the only 2 in the hotel apart from our driver. We had choice of fish or chicken for dinner & opted for chicken which was 1 small drumstick, chips & salad.
Dessert was ice cream & fruit. there were no staff in the hotel after 10pm, tough if there had been an emergency. Our rep organised the stay needless to say we asked for & got a refund on return to base hotel.

Room Tip: find somewhere else

This is a delightful hotel on a promontory just outside of Galle with fantastic views. It is an old colonial house and you can imagine how it might have been 150 years ago. The building needs a bit of TLC but you can ignore this and drink in the atmosphere.

The service is great. Lots of staff, many who have been there a long time, who can't do enough for you. I am sure there were more staff at breakfast than guests. There are also a couple of young eager lads waiting on too.

We had six night there. We ate in for four evenings and had great sea food.

Rooms are smallish, no TV, hairdryer on request. But it served its purpose.
If you want something different from the big tourist places, go to the Closenberg

Although my stay was just over 20 years ago I would say that the hotel was not the best I have stayed in but the owners, staff and local people made it the most fantastic place to stay. We were married in the grounds of the Secret Garden Villa. Nothing was to much trouble, the food was the best I have ever tasted, even now. The beach nearby was out of a post card. True paradise. To the then owners thankyou for making our special day and stay the moment of a lifetime.

Room Tip: Stay here it is paradise

This place, an old colonial place, is old. And it tells Stayed there for a destination wedding - our party had taken over the place. Perked on top of a promontory, the place has great views. On the courtyard you can set up a wedding venue, and, years into marriage, the couple will not forget the scenic beauty - sea, distant hills and a lot more.
In fact weddings look like their main thrust area. Nowhere else you will find so many three -bedded rooms, to accommodate all the relatives.
Apart from the view two other goods things are service - very friendly - and food. Praise for food comes with a caveat - they should stick to what they know to cook, in stead of cooking dishes from cuisines they don't know. In our case it was a a strangely coloured butter chicken.
The rooms are old, not renovated to modern living style standards. Upper story rooms are better - less chance of encountering an insect. And the view superb.
In the bathroom we never got anything beyond tepid water. Really they should invest in a modern boiler.
This place is strict no-no to old people. Grandads and granmas in our group stood in total fear - unable to climb steep stairs with no handrails.

Room Tip: Not for the old and physically challenged.
