This hotel was NEARLY wonderful, and the location is breathtaking, but it just feels a bit tired. The decor and lots of the fittings look a bit scruffy, with stains on the sofas and smelly old books in the library. It probably didn't help that we had just been to a very plush and fresh-looking hotel (The Kandy House) and a very new place (The Wallawwa) just before .

We still had a very good time, but spent most of it on the beach - we would have been very disappointed if we had been kept indoors by the kind of weather we had in Kandy. The service was attentive if a little slow, and the food was very good,

We (wife and I plus two boys aged 4 and 2) stayed at the Sun House for one night on our way from Colombo to Tangalle. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They were great with our (manic) little boys. We had a delicious dinner and a lovely time there. For anyone visiting Galle, we would recommend staying there.

My husband and I stayed in the Sun House for a few nights on our honeymoon. We booked the Cinammon Suite, which took up the top floor of the main house.

The suite was beautiful and incredibly romantic. There was an outdoor bath, inside bathroom, large bedroom and living room. This is not 5 star luxury, but more like staying in someone's house. The hotel is a little rough around the edges and rustic (i.e. no aircon in the cinammon suite, plenty of lizards in the rafters,), but that's what makes it so charming and worth the price to stay. It was a great experience.

The curry on the first night was fantastic. The manager, Henri, puts on a great spread and we had fish curry, with okra, beetroot, carrot and dahl curries, popadums, sambals, rice etc.

The tea served with cake in the afternoons (or whenever you wanted some) was the best we'd ever had. Ceylon tea is delicious.

The staff had plenty of recommendations for us...places to go and things to do and they were very helpful in arranging diving, cycling and other trips.

This was my favourite hotel of our trip as it was unique. The atmosphere was sleepy, relaxed and friendly.

I found the Sun House to be over priced and would not stay there again. We have stayed in many hotels in Sri Lanka and this hotel did not meet our expectations. The room was basic with lots of mosquitos, the hot water was so hot that myself and husband burnt ourselves. Food was very good however, but pricey. I found the charge for my children's breakfast to be extortionate (in no other hotel we have stayed in 3 years in Sri Lanka do you have to pay for young children to eat breakfast). Staff were okay but again I have experienced much better during our stay in Sri Lanka. Very disappointed and would not recommend as do not think it is good value.

We stayed for two nights at the Sunhouse in two deluxe rooms and thought it was a wonderful property, oozing with character and charm.
We were fortunate enough to have a virtual monopoly on the pool for the duration of our stay and in contrast to previous comments found it to be absolutely fine, with the beautiful garden setting adding to the ambience.
The staff were without exception charming and attentive, while Henri, the manager, was a real character.
Aside from the character and charm that really set it apart from any other property we've stayed in, what we really noticed was the attention to detail, such as the welcome pack with parchment paper and 'hand-drawn' map. You're left with the impression that rather than some big corporate five-stars, this property is the result of a real labour of love on the part of the owner and the management.
We'd definitely go back, though our peek at the stunning Dutch House across the road (its sister property) has left us keen to sample its delights as well!

Hotel has seen better days and needs a good clean up and new coat of paint. Dinner was not great, as we had to confirm missing accompaniments from the menu to get them (ie bread and salad). Pool is tiny.

We did not stay at the hotel but we did go there for dinner. It as lovely. We went early and enjoyed a couple of delicious drinks in the bar. The GM (a lovely and welcoming woman) took us into the bar and introduced us to a few of the folks there and made sure that everyone was having fun. Later we went for a very tasty dinner. I did not see any of the rooms, but the grounds, bar, pool, lounge all were very nice. The place was clean, open, airy and welcoming with some great character. If you happen to be staying somewhere else, I would recommend you visit this place for a nice evening out.
