We stayed one week at Templeberg over Christmas/New Year 2013. Our party was 6 adults and 4 children, and the villa fitted us perfectly. The staff are very kind and accommodating. The two staff tuk-tuk drivers are great - you can go anywhere at anytime with them, no problem. The lovely ladies in the kitchen cooked us spectacular breakfasts and dinners every day, which was very decadent. The villa's decor is very stylish yet relaxed, so we didn't feel as though the children couldn't play.

We will definitely return to Templeberg Villa to visit Karin and the wonderful staff very soon.

Room Tip: If you are a couple, then try to get the front room - it is very romantic. :-)

Thanks for the wonderful feedback.

We are thrilled that you were impressed by the staff, the decor and traditional Sri Lankan food prepared by Trixie.

We loved that the children explored the gardens, played board games and were able to give the adults some time to themselves to enjoy their holiday.

Looking forward to a possible return visit next season.

I spent four magical weeks at Templeberg in December 2013 and January 2014. My home was the two bedroom writers cottage, which I shared first with a girlfriend, and then my daughter.
The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully appointed with mosquito net covered vintage four poster beds, ceiling fans, a desk for writing and a big bathroom. Early morning was spent on the verandah where the wonderful night watchman Raja would arrive with a pot of tea and teach me my daily set of Sinhala words. I started each day with a walk around the country roads surrounding the villa, meeting the village families and visiting local places of interest like the Buddhist temple and fabric weaving factory. I’d come home to a beautiful breakfast of tropical fruit, buffalo curd and kithul treacle, followed by one of Tricksy’s delicious Sri Lankan breakfast dishes – kiribath, egg hoppers, dosai.
The gardens of the villa are large and tranquil, with lots to discover – king coconuts and jackfruit, purple-faced long-tailed leaf monkeys and monitor lizards. But there’s also so much to see nearby - both in Galle and along the coast. Sandrew, the Villa manager, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in planning my adventures by bus along the coast, and the gorgeous Sudu was always there for the ten minute tuk-tuk ride into town. Tricksy’s dinners were varied and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend doing a cooking lesson with her to learn how to cook her mouth-watering spicy calamari, garlic curry, banana flower sambal or jackfruit curry.
All the staff at Templeberg willingly shared their time, culture, language, knowledge and lives with me, and have become friends that I will definitely go back to see.

We had a lovely couple of days in this beautiful villa just outside Galle fort. It proved to be perfect for our needs, not least as my wife was unfortunately ill with a fever as we arrived. Karin and all at Tembleberg were extremely generous and carrying throughout. The villa is set up a steep track, well away from the tourists in the fort, but in easy reach thanks to Sudu and his tuk-tuk. Delicious food, a spacious room and bathroom, a tranquil common areas make this a great location. We're excited by Karin's plans for the villa and only hope to have the oppprunity to return, especially once the elevated Jacuzzi's is restored among the coconut trees! Strongly recommended place to stay.

Room Tip: Plantation room - definitely the one to choose

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of our villa, we value your comments.

It is never nice having been travelling and arrive somewhere unwell and we are glad that we were able to offer a caring hand to make your wife comfortable and get her into good health so she could enjoy her onward trip.

We really appreciate your comments regarding our customer service and interest in the ongoing upgrades to the property. We are excited about the plans for the future.

We are very committed to celebrating the uniqueness of the location, preserving the history of the villa which dates back to 1864 and of course investing in our future.

Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you once the whole master layout of the 5 acre site is complete!

Just back from our stay at Vila Templeberg and we are all missing it terribly. The villa was exactly what we were looking for having already stayed in Galle Fort and not wanting to be directly by the beaches. Set up in the hills it was lush and peaceful with lovely sounds of nature all around. It was great to have a small swimming pool to cool off without having to head down to the beach to swim. We had our 3 year old daughter who loved the freedom of exploring the house and grounds and playing with the friendly staff and dogs...she is missing Mumu and Reva! It suited us to stay somewhere small and personal. We stayed in the Plantation Suite which was a dream. High ceilings and light minimal decor, lots of space. It was just gorgeous. Food was really great. Proper home cooked authentic dishes by Trixie and the staff, quite refreshing from the big buffets at the large hotels. We would love to stay at the Templeberg again. Karin pulls off the perfect combination of style, quality and personal comfort and service.

We had a great stay at Templeberg. The setting of the old colonial villa in a coconut plantation was so peaceful with lots of wildlife-spotting opportunities and our room was very nice, but what makes this place really special is the staff who run it. From owner Karin, who was always on hand to check we had everything we needed, to cook Trixie who rustles up delicious meals, to Sudu, who often drove us down to the beach or into town (always with the biggest smile), the whole team of staff are the loveliest you'll find and will go out of their way to make your time here both special and memorable. There was an issue with hot water whilst we were there, but it didn't put a dampener on our stay, and both the cooking class we did with Trixie and the heavenly massage I had on our last day were fantastic. Wonderful - thank you to all at Templeberg for a relaxing and memorable three days, a real highlight of our travels in Sri Lanka.

My girlfriend and I shared the two bedroom villa with a shared bathroom and loved it from the minute we arrived. The four poster beds with mosquito nets fluttering under the fans as we entered, the click click of the gecko, the serenity sitting on the verandah listening to birdsong, spotting the monkeys in the trees morning and evening, and, most of all, the wonderful team, who greet you and then become your friends over the 11 nights I spent there. I honestly felt like I was leaving my family when I left. Karin our host ensured all of needs were met and questions answered. Trixie cooked us endless wonderful, tasty meals and we joined her in the kitchen for a wonderful cooking lesson. Raja and Sam who look after us during the night are so thoughtful in keeping mosquito coils nearby in the evening and coffee and tea in the mornings. Sudo meet us every morning with a huge smile and a safe journey in his tuk tuk into Galle only a short trip away. Sandrew oversees all the activity at the villa with calm grace, whilst the rest of the main team Nina, Achala and Danuke are professional and caring in their duties. Try a massage from Achala and it will add to your relaxation and well-being. Galle is a wonderful mixture of calm World Heritage area inside the fort and wonderful, fun business outside the ramparts. Great food can be found cheap at many locations. Be brave and jump on a bus up the coast. It's cheap and great fun if you don't mind a crowd! The area around the villa is just wonderful and if you care for a walk in the early morning you will meet many wonderful and interesting people, and see how Sri Lankans carry out their day to day lives. I will be heading back there as soon as i can!

Templeberg Villa was an absolute delight! I am so happy I was able to find it through Facebook and a recommendation from a friend.

Visiting Galle for the first time after spending several weeks in the Northern Province I relished the peace and serenity that this historic coconut plantation property had to offer. The feel and look of the property called to mind a different era, one that speaks to a mix of rustic luxury and something of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. The rooms offered four poster beds and were lofty and light-filled. Waking up each day to a delicious breakfast and fresh coconut water I felt refreshed and ready to sightsee. The villa's location is ideal to get to the beach, Galle Fort, and nearby tea plantations, turtle sanctuaries, and silk factory. Traveling by tuk tuk I was able to get the full experience and the knowledgeable and friendly staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. At the end of a long day it was great to be able to come back to a beautiful property and sit out on the terrace to enjoy a fantastic meal. I once heard that the best cooking in Galle comes in the form of guesthouse kitchens, and Templeberg doesn't disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious!!

I highly recommend staying here...it is truly a gem and I hope to get back again in the near future!

Room Tip: I stayed at the bungalow in the back and with two twin beds it was ideal for two female travelers...
