We had a great stay at Templeberg. The setting of the old colonial villa in a coconut plantation was so peaceful with lots of wildlife-spotting opportunities and our room was very nice, but what makes this place really special is the staff who run it. From owner Karin, who was always on hand to check we had everything we needed, to cook Trixie who rustles up delicious meals, to Sudu, who often drove us down to the beach or into town (always with the biggest smile), the whole team of staff are the loveliest you'll find and will go out of their way to make your time here both special and memorable. There was an issue with hot water whilst we were there, but it didn't put a dampener on our stay, and both the cooking class we did with Trixie and the heavenly massage I had on our last day were fantastic. Wonderful - thank you to all at Templeberg for a relaxing and memorable three days, a real highlight of our travels in Sri Lanka.

My girlfriend and I shared the two bedroom villa with a shared bathroom and loved it from the minute we arrived. The four poster beds with mosquito nets fluttering under the fans as we entered, the click click of the gecko, the serenity sitting on the verandah listening to birdsong, spotting the monkeys in the trees morning and evening, and, most of all, the wonderful team, who greet you and then become your friends over the 11 nights I spent there. I honestly felt like I was leaving my family when I left. Karin our host ensured all of needs were met and questions answered. Trixie cooked us endless wonderful, tasty meals and we joined her in the kitchen for a wonderful cooking lesson. Raja and Sam who look after us during the night are so thoughtful in keeping mosquito coils nearby in the evening and coffee and tea in the mornings. Sudo meet us every morning with a huge smile and a safe journey in his tuk tuk into Galle only a short trip away. Sandrew oversees all the activity at the villa with calm grace, whilst the rest of the main team Nina, Achala and Danuke are professional and caring in their duties. Try a massage from Achala and it will add to your relaxation and well-being. Galle is a wonderful mixture of calm World Heritage area inside the fort and wonderful, fun business outside the ramparts. Great food can be found cheap at many locations. Be brave and jump on a bus up the coast. It's cheap and great fun if you don't mind a crowd! The area around the villa is just wonderful and if you care for a walk in the early morning you will meet many wonderful and interesting people, and see how Sri Lankans carry out their day to day lives. I will be heading back there as soon as i can!

Templeberg Villa was an absolute delight! I am so happy I was able to find it through Facebook and a recommendation from a friend.

Visiting Galle for the first time after spending several weeks in the Northern Province I relished the peace and serenity that this historic coconut plantation property had to offer. The feel and look of the property called to mind a different era, one that speaks to a mix of rustic luxury and something of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. The rooms offered four poster beds and were lofty and light-filled. Waking up each day to a delicious breakfast and fresh coconut water I felt refreshed and ready to sightsee. The villa's location is ideal to get to the beach, Galle Fort, and nearby tea plantations, turtle sanctuaries, and silk factory. Traveling by tuk tuk I was able to get the full experience and the knowledgeable and friendly staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. At the end of a long day it was great to be able to come back to a beautiful property and sit out on the terrace to enjoy a fantastic meal. I once heard that the best cooking in Galle comes in the form of guesthouse kitchens, and Templeberg doesn't disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious!!

I highly recommend staying here...it is truly a gem and I hope to get back again in the near future!

Room Tip: I stayed at the bungalow in the back and with two twin beds it was ideal for two female travelers...

This is one of life's great finds and a treasure in Sri Lanka.
My friend & I struggled to find accommodation with twin beds in Galle and by a stroke of luck found Templeberg Villa.
The Villa is beautiful and filled with history, outstanding pieces of historical furniture and art, and surrounded by wonderful jungle and jungle atmosphere.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom Villa with a shared bathroom which was gloriously rustic and we loved 4 poster beds which were a real treat.
We were close to everything in the Galle and Southern Beaches but felt special being nestled away from all the hub bub in the city and the busy beach areas.
Karin the Owner is a fantastic host and made us feel as guests extra special. She has enthralling stories to tell and experiences to share, every recommendation she made for places to visit and eat out were spot on perfect, and she has recruited an exemplar staff who make everything run smoothly and efficiently.
Sandrew organised a day tour for us to Cinnamon Island on Kogala Lake, any trip we wanted to make, showed us how to make 'hoppers' & went out of his way to pick us up in Galle after hours when Sudu (a local tuk tuk driver who makes himself available to Templeberg guests, is never without the biggest grin and who is very fair and modestly priced) was delayed by another job.
Trixie the cook has a smile and warmth that could outshine the stars seems to effortlessly put together a beautiful breakfast (ie. the yoghurt and kitul syrup are the best) and we had a great time learning to cook with her, going to the markets and preparing 6 dishes with us.
Tyrone the masseuse is also worth asking the staff to book for you.
We left Templeberg relaxed, with our 4 day stay here a highlight of our time in Sri Lanka.
We will definitely be back and couldn't have felt more welcomed and better treated as guests.

A wonderful example of a restored and authentic Dutch Colonial villa close enough to Galle and the beaches but at a reasonable distance to ensure privacy and away from the beaten tourist track. I stayed in a Queen room in the main villa which was perfect for a couple or single traveller. Large comfortable four poster bed with mosquito net. Breakfast daily on the lawn was a highlight and trixies homemade fruit cocktail drink refreshingly cool. Great transport from Colombo to Galle via the highway an improvement on the other roads. I was lucky enough to have Sandrew organise an overnight Leopard Safari Camp with Noel from Leopard Safaris. Spotted many elephants, birds and importantly leopards in the wild! Thank you Karin and the team I will be back.

We had fabulous time celebrating my 40th birthday at Templeberg Villa. While it was only a brief overnight stay, it was very nice to have a surprise birthday dinner, which had been arranged via email between the owners' staff and my husband. The spread that they put on was wonderful, and the private fireworks display a fitting end to a special birthday. The staff at Templeberg are cheerful and the location is near to everything. Our itinerary was put together by the owners and we crammed in plenty of activities. The next time we visit, we are looking forward to going at a slower pace, as well as seeing how much will have changed from our first introduction to Templeberg Villa.

Thanks Rachel and Ben. It was hard keeping that birthday dinner a surprise! Well worth it to see the expression on your face. The new Highway has been extended so next time you are back it will make it easier to zip around the island. The five day itinerary Sandrew put together hopefully have you a good Taste of Sri Lanka and left you wanting more. Hope the Middle East is treating you and the family well. We (myself, wife and two daughters) had the pleasure of staying for 5 days in this colonial dutch homestay. Nestled amongst a large plantation of palms and semi jungle the only sounds you will here is the monkeys as they take flight over the tree tops in the evening.

Templeberg Villa is located a stone throw from Galle Fort, Unawatuna beach and Thelpe Bay which is great for day trips. Staff are very warm and welcoming and Karin our host gave us some great tips on what to see and do on our stay. If you are a foodie Trixie their chef loves to invite you into her kitchen and is very knowledgeable on local cuisine.

Jamie and Family. It was wonderful having you to stay in the bungalow. We are thrilled that you found the staff to be very warm and welcoming. Trixie is getting a great reputation as a fabulous home cook and we loved that you and the kids were so interested in watching and learning how she prepares some of her recipes in her kitchen. She certainly loved having an audience! Hope the rest of your trip was as relaxed as you certainly all looked leaving us in the van. Keep in touch on Facebook.
