Nice old clock tower! Wasnt sure when it was built but facing the cricket ground make it look magnanimous. Looks old and seems to keep the time accurately

Its a great clock tower but only part of the wonderful walk you can do around the ramparts that enclose Galle Fort. We stayed in the fort for 10 days and often did the walk all around or just watched the sunset from here.

Why rate a clock tower? This one is special as it towers over the immense ramparts of the 300 plus years old Dutch Fort, which provide the unique backdrop to Galle CC International Test cricket ground. These ramparts have been draped in the flags and slogans of the "Barmy Army" who have created so many friends in this lovely small "City". Was honoured to witness the finest masterclass of batting by Jayawardena in January 2012 when he scored 160 in first day v England.
PS the clock is still used as official timepiece for start and close of play, the same as Old Father Time at Lords CC, despite it being Council property!!!

As someone else pointed out, a good landmark in the old town; apart from that, a reminder of Sri Lankas' colonial past (British, in this case), and a waymark on a walk around the fortifications.

An interesting example of a clock tower ,it helps you orientate as you walk around the Fort .Its a good guide when you walk around the ramparts
