Owner description: The history of Galle extends thousands of years to biblical times. In more recent times it was a prize to be possessed for western traders in search of wealth and glory. Its beautifully preserved colonial Dutch fort with its quaint city with cobblestone streets within is a place time forgot. Close by are magnificent beaches, rainforests and other attractions. It is definitely a fascinating place to visit.

The fort is free of entrance fee and it really is a must see in Sri Lanka. It has beautiful restaurants and art stores and one ice cream place that is a must. You have a great view on the ocean.

The Galle fort is a must for tourists. The streets are almost all redecorated. The site gives you a chance to look back at Portugese and Dutch history.

Perfect for a nice, leisurely stroll for a half-day at least.

You can swim from a few points on the ocean (especially near the lighthouse), the water is nice and clear.

Pedlar St has some interesting design/handicraft shops.

Galle's Fort is very nice, you can walk around and visit the numerous jewellery shops as well as seeing the old Dutch buildings. The views from the top of the fort are great too!

Certainly take a walk around the fort, preferably with someone who knows the history of it. Morning is probably best as it gets hot in the afternoon and is a crowded meeting place in the evening.
