We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in a suite ... were recommended this hotel ... being a Geoffrey Bawa designed property. It is well designed and of course the location is super but the quality of service left a sad taste. We had a butler designated to the suite ....but I dont think he really understood what service meant besides being polite and saying yes to every thing ...maybe without actually understanding it....not his fault at all, as their did'nt seem to be any training in place for the staff.
Had poor response from reception...did mention this to the General Manager who seemed to agree when discussing the issue...not complaining! Food was OK .. a good selection on the buffet.
On the whole the place can do with a good clean up. Considering we paid $500/- per night ,you would expect the place to be clean and well maintained !!Wake up Jet Wings ....Need a better management in place.

Room Tip: We had the suite which ofcourse has excellent views ....dont know what it would be like if you have...

What an awesome hotel. Beautiful setting, the best service, friendly staff and top notch food. The spa is tranquil and relaxing. The poolside was great for spending the day tanning and swimming. Very impressed with everything especially the head chef Nihal who always checked up on us. His newly opened restaurant by the pool is very authentic and a well thought out menu with fusion flavours to die for. Our holiday wad made perfect by the attention to detail by all staff and the general feeling of being at home but more luxurious.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. We appreciate guest feedback and your positive comments help us in knowing we are heading in the right direction.

One of Geoffrey Bawa’s masterpieces, the Jetwing Lighthouse it very unique in design and is located in a truly mesmerizing setting. It is something that leaves all our guests speechless. These two qualities, added to the high levels we expect in terms of service and guest experience makes this property one not to be missed.
I will make sure to make sure your comment regarding Chef Nihal is passed on as I know he will be pleased to hear that his and his team hard work is noticed.

We hope to see you back at the Jetwing Lighthouse in the near future.

Not sure why there would be any complaints. This hotel is fabulous...impeccable service, quality of rooms and beautiful surroundings. We got upgraded to the honeymoon suite and had te most relaxing time. Excellent food (half board basis to boot).

Made 2 trips to the hotel in the last couple of weeks, and while I didn't stay there on either occasion, I'd recommend it as a stopover for a meal / some good beach time.

Location: Just a few kilometres outside of Galle on the Galle road, it provides a beautiful beachside location that is easy to reach. The dining area has a beautiful view of the ocean and 3 stretches of beach that are all quite different and appealing in their own way.

Food: The food was a lot more affordable than I thought it would be, and while the menu may be quite small, there is enough in the way of good dishes. Tried all 3 (4?) of the prawn dishes on the menu and they were all good.

The Beach: Everyone I spoke to about this said, "Lighthouse! Nice place, not much of a beach though", and I couldn't disagree more (about the beach). I didn't scope out the main stretch of beach near the rooms, but the area in front of the dining area is a small, fun, rock-sheltered area that's constantly hammered by the waves, which then gently washes through to the beach area where you can stand. The stretch of beach by the hotel entrance (maybe not strictly hotel property) gets some decent waves and is fairly quiet.

A beautiful hotel, designed by the famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffry Bawa. Perhaps not impressive from the outside, but the inner staircase with its sculptures and the overal design with its simplicity and functionality really speak for themselves. The rooms are spacious, with wooden floor and a large bed. The bathrooms are enormous, with a separate toilet, bathtub and shower. The provided toiletries very good. All rooms overlook the sea and have a small verandah or balcony. The A/C is working very well and is not noisy. Overal sleep quality is very good: the rooms seem well isolated.
The bar area is on the sea front and is really wonderful with huge waves crushing just near the terrace. The dinner and breakfast buffet are really excellent. The internet is working perfectly.
Really worth the money!

Dear Guest,

As the General Manager here, it is my job to harmonize the facilities and services so that guests who patronize the Jetwing Lighthouse enjoy the best possible experience at the property. Your comments have shown me we are heading towards the right direction and I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We are happy about your comments in regards to rooms, the food, and the setting of the hotel; it is what we expect to hear from a guest who stays with us. We spent two evenings in the Jetwing Lighthouse. While we were certainly satisfied, in view of the reviews and the price, we would have expected more.

First, the good:
-- The hotel itself is a masterpiece, designed by the well-regarded late Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. It is a stunning building overlooking the sea and the views are fantastic. Decide if it is important for you to be in the old city. (The tradeoff is instead to be at the beach with two large pools. We thought the tradeoff was worth it, especially as the old city is a 10-minute ride away and one can "do" the old city in a day.)
--The spa is fantastic; the pools are both good; and the fitness center was excellent by hotel standards.
--So, too, was the breakfast -- fantastic variety and amazing view overlooking the water.
--On account of arriving earlier than we had planned, we actually stayed in two rooms and the experience differed dramatically. The first room was a suite that was spectacular. The hard and soft furnishings were deluxe and elegant -- a cool Moorish-meets-South Asian design.

Now for the less than good.
-- The second room -- a mere "deluxe" room -- was a different story. While it still had adequate design features, the furniture was very tired. The curtains were soiled, the fan appeared to be falling off the ceiling, the windows dirty. See photos that I am attaching here. That we had such differing experiences suggests a wide variety in the rooms.
-- Where this hotel really fell especially short was the staffing. There are many people working here and the staff are courteous and friendly. However, it consistently felt like no one was in charge, no one had a sense of urgency, few had a clue what was going on. Checking out, for instance, was quite an ordeal. No fewer than 8 people were at the desk but there was still a great deal of scurrying and it took a good 15 minutes. Wifi was extremely spotty throughout the hotel. Similarly, there was no one who resembled a concierge, so making dinner reservations was a bit of a chore.

After traveling nearly 2 weeks in Sri Lanka I realize that the management of hotels -- even those with high (western) pricing -- is not what one would expect in other countries (including India -- they could learn a lot about service from Oberoi or Trident). I imagine that as Sri Lanka becomes increasingly visited, the management of hotels will become more professionalized. For now, do not assume that US$400/night translates into good service.

We had dinner at Sun House, a boutique hotel within the fort. The meal was fantastic and atmosphere tops. I would consider staying there next time.

Room Tip: We actually stayed in two rooms because we extended our stay. The first room was a suite within the...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your detailed feedback on Trip Advisor. At the Jetwing Lighthouse we believe that the best way to improve ourselves is from guest feedback and we value every comment we receive.

I am pleased that you find the spa and the breakfast fantastic and I couldn’t agree more about the view.

Every department of the hotel understands that the customers come first and work their hardest to please and meet every little requirement that a guest may have. We believe in sufficient training and product knowledge, so we constantly try to go the extra mile to develop and train our staff at every opportunity.

I hope that overall it did ruin your overall experience of the Hotel. Feel free to contact me personally should there be anything you require on your present trip on any other visit to Sri Lanka you may make in the future.

Arrived last night to dirty rooms and air conditioning that is so noisy it is impossible to sleep.we have 3 deluxe sea view rooms, the views are nice. They replaced the faulty air con fans in all 3 of our rooms, but still pretty noisy. After a sleepless night the builders work drilling into concrete started at 8 am on our first morning. We have 2 more nights , I will report back on completion.
