My husband and I stayed here in early November 2011 and were very impressed upon entering the hotel. It has a very striking staircase lined with statues representing the Sri lankans repelling the Portuguese, so far so good. The hotel is exceptionally well designed to make the most of the spectacular clifftop setting and the rooms are pleasant enough. Few small gripes: eco friendly bottles of shampoo etc that were not re-filled and pretty dire channel choice on the tv but clean and comfortable. The only problem we had was with the food which was not great. I had to teach the (lovely) staff how to cook bacon and sausages properly as they were nearly raw on the first day. The hash browns were raw EVERY day, despite me politely asking for them to be cooked more than once. Room service was ok but had a limited menu. We ate in the Cinammon room once, the service was very slow, the food was underseasoned and overcooked. We did not try the evening buffet so cannot comment on that. Beautiful colonial setting though and that is part of the charm of this hotel - the design and location which are faultless. I just get the feeling that they are resting on their laurels a little bit and feel that they don't have to try too hard because of the location. It's a shame as we ending up going into Galle and eating there most nights. We had some lovely days round the pool though and really enjoyed the holiday. The Spa was fantastic and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor for better views.

We arrived at the Lighthouse hotel after an arduous 8 hour drive from Kandy to be greeted with drinks and freshen up towels. The staff were lovely and after a few formalities we were shown to a beautiful room overlooking the beach. The facilities at the hotel were first class as were the staff. The bufet selection at all meals were excellent. The barbecue selections were not quite so good but exceptable. We were extremely happy with this hotel and were a little sad to leave.

We stayed here at the start of our trip, the hotel is beautiful with spectacular views and big rooms. The breakfast is also very good with good selection. The massage was also of a very high standard. But that's when everything stops. The remote control in our room never worked and not so much choice of channels, there is no WIfi in the room , so all the time you have to go out in the reception and there is no beach. So if you are traveling with little children and you want to relax either in the evening or during the day, there is not much of an option except to get a babysitter. However, the location of the hotel is very good, about 5 mins from the old city and also of you have a driver they provide driver's lodging.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments and for your kind words regarding our rooms, our spa and the quality of food in our restaurants.

We are sorry we were unable to keep your children better entertained. Our two pools are located and designed as such that the smaller upper level pool is perfect for children, especially as parents can keep an eye on them while enjoying a cool beverage from the Anchor Bar & Grill. The lower level pool offers a large grassy area as well as access to the beach. We are sorry our beach is not ideal for swimming due to the coral reef covering many parts of that area. However, many a fine sand castle have been constructed along the two kilometer stretch of sandy shoreline, along with the occasional discovery of sea turtles and the rare glimpse of small reef sharks early in the mornings. Definitely a fine, fun stretch for the avid young explorer.

We are in the process of making WiFi accessible in all guest rooms. We have completed work on one block and the second block will be finished within the coming month. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

We do hope you will come visit us again at some point in the near or distant future as it has been our pleasure hosting you.

Sincerely,

General Manager.

My wife and I stayed at the Lighthouse as the final stage of our Sri Lankan honeymoon. We couldn`t fault the hotel at all. From the minute we arrived we treated so well, from the complimentary fruit basket, through to the "happy honeymoon" cake we were presented with. Our room was supoerb, with incredible views of the Indian Ocean, from both balconies. The staff were friendly, and couldn`t do enough for you. Overall this was an incredible experience. Thank you Jetwing Lighthouse!!

brilliant location and very large and well appointed rooms, BUT that's all there is to that hotel! It is dirty, filthy, every second light isn't working, the paint is pealing off the walls and ceiling! I don't understant how this hotel fits within the Small Luxury Hotels brand. there is absolutely no maintenance at all, the balcony furniture is shabby and not chic, and the towels they give you at the beach are old thin and have holes in them.

breakfast is good but any othere meals were appalling. Do expect your order to be wrong, they bring you tea instead of coffee or simply nothing. there is a lot of staff, lovely but inneficient!

As I said, no luxury at all in that hotel, just a great position and large rooms.

Dear Guest,

We are quite saddened by your review of our seaside hotel. Being this close to the ocean, we do acknowledge that constant maintenance is required to cope with wear caused by the salty air, however, we feel that your comments are quite excessive. If you regard our reviews they are generally quite positive.

Issues such as light bulbs burning out are monitored twice a day by the team that check your rooms daily, and our maintenance officers who monitor the public areas. Should you be inconvenienced by a burned out bulb between these times notifying any member of our team is sufficient to have the problem rectified within minutes.

I have personally checked our outdoor furniture, along with the Executive Housekeeper and other than some minor repair work in two chairs, found no significant wear. We are sorry they were not to your liking. The poolside linen will be inspected by our Housekeeper and any worn towels will be discarded.

Again, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us and wish you all the very best. I would like to mention however that Jetwing Lighthouse will be undergoing renovations this year and we do hope you will come to stay with us once that is completed.

Sincerely,

General Manager.
