A very elegant residence and restaurant, reminds us of the Eastern & Oriental in Penang,However on the downside the Menu is very limited and overpriced for the area. The lack of various fish & crustacean dishes was really disappointing .

Staying at Amanresorts one is used to privacy and service.

The former "New Oriental" Hotel being a landmark in Galle fort it attracts also an outside crowd to its restaurant which is understandable.

The setting of the "Zaal" and the verandah is really great and in comparison to the room rates the F&B prices are quite low and that's where the problem is You do not want while enjoying delicious curries and nice wines to be interrupted by poorly dressed people walking in and worse take close up photos of you while you are dining (this happened to me). The same people complain then to have received poor service or being told the best tables are reserved (for the inhouse guests of course which appears to be right).

Aman is aware of the problem and they are doing an increasingly good job at the entrance door, but this remains a weak point.

How can I rate an Aman "average"? The dining room and terrace are, as the other reviewers have said, lovely, and the food is good; but for these prices, and given the Aman reputation, I expected attentive, perhaps even charming, service. The servers' attitudes were, at best, slapdash, and we couldn't find a waiter most of the time. I had to walk into the service area to find someone who would bring us our bill. I enjoyed my pumpkin ravioli, but the overall experience was below my expectations.

Aman hotels are not my thing. A bit "too" nice. That said, having lunch here on the veranda was wonderful. Colonial Sri Lanka comes to life. The food is delicious, the service admirable and the surroundings reminiscent of times past.

First class.

Instead of spending a fortune on a room, spend 2 hours in the lobby having a tea set at 1500 rupees which can feed 2 people. The sandwiches were acceptable, the cakes were moist and rich, and the highlight were the scones which were better than many that we have tried back home in Singapore. They have a good selection of flavourful teas included in the set.
