This is a clean budget hotel. Our room was acceptable for, generally over-priced, Sri lankan accommodation. Breakfast is poor. I only ate the toast and drank tea.

Would suggest that you book any onward transport with the hotel. You will pay more however no vans from Galle will pick you up from hotel location as they have suffered intimidation in the past. We tried to negotiate with a number of van drivers however when they discovered where we were staying they said they were not allowed to come to that area.

We stayed here for two nights. It's a good and cheap alternative to those overpriced places in the Galle Fort.

The goods:
Room: It's the most spacious room among all the places I've stayed in Sri Lanka. It doesn't smell weird, beds are comfortable, toilet is clean, room is new, ventilation is good. We are happy with everything and it feels comfortable.

Location: It's a short ride away from the fort and town area (Rs.200 on tuk-tuk, Rs.12 on bus). The bus stops right in front of the property so you don't need to walk a distance. A lot of buses pass by here indeed, you can easily go anywhere on bus. But since it's a rather busy road, you might hear some honks, but it's not anywhere near loud and noisy. I agree with the idea of not staying inside the Fort because it does look a bit eerie at night after the shops close. Even at evening, it already looked deserted with only tourists wondering around.

The bads:
Hot water: There's no hot water in our room. We told the housekeeper upon check out to learn that we should have told him earlier so that he could bring something to generate the hot water for us. It was raining the two days we were there so the hot water will come in handy.

View: There's a small balcony, but sadly one that has no view and is overseeing neighbour's roof. The common area is not anywhere better. So it seems like the best place is inside the room. I guess view is not what they intend to offer. But just like anywhere else I've stayed in Sri Lanka, they are also renovating and building more rooms. Hopefully the new rooms are better.

Overall, we had a comfortable stay. I recommend it. I would have given 'perfect' if it's slightly closer to the town, as in within walking distance to the town and fort area and with hot water.

On a side note, the housekeeper (Mr.Gunarath, if Im not mistaken) is very friendly, helpful and speaks good English. He is able to provide information for everything we want to know. My sister was not feeling well and he actually made an effort to come to our room and check if she was alright. He is definitely a plus point for this place. He is also the only person I've talked to among the three person I've seen throughout the two days (one construction worker and one man who doesn't talk much), no sign of owner nor other travelers as well. Anyway, he is leaving the job soon. You just have to wish that the standard will remain.

Room Tip: Upper floor for newer rooms.

Stayed here 3 nights, the location is good, a short tuk tuk ride away from the centre of Galle and the Fort.

The room was a good size and felt very new, and was also spotlessly clean, with both a fan and A/C included.

I have to also say that the owner was super friendly and went out of his way to help out during our stay (e.g. standing in the rain with us to help us flag down a bus), and also chat with us about Sri Lanka.

One of the best places we stayed in our 3 weeks in Sri Lanka! Glad we didn't end up paying a lot to stay in the Fort at night .. to me it gets a bit eery after dark ...

If you think you want to stay inside the Fort in Galle, Sri Lanka, think again!! Sanras Holiday Home--lovely, tasteful and super-clean hotel--boasts the perfect, quiet environment of being "just out of town", while offering the amenities you need: great beds, air-con (not always needed), a lovely terrace surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the "countryside". Just across the highway, about 200 metres down the road, is the very up-scale Lighthouse hotel, where there is public beach access to one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful beaches. Sanras' owner is a lovely, gracious man who speaks perfect English (and has a very beautiful wife!). All-around guy (cleaning man, cook, laundry man, do-EVERYthing man) is Sumi, whose English is also very good, but it's the constant smile and the very intelligent mind that makes Sumi a good friend while you're staying at Sanras. Always there before you even need him (!), Sumi made our visit (12 nights) especially joyful. On our last night, he cooked a fabulous Sri Lankan dinner, hosted by the hotel's owner and wife. How lucky can you get!
