“Really lovely!”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

We stayed here 2 nights during a one week vacation in Sri Lanka. Service is excellent - the staff was approachable, friendly and always ready to go out of their way to help. Rooms are very uniquely decorated, with an artistic minimalist touch to it. It was very different to any other accommodation we had stayed at previously and we loved the change! Location is fantastic - it's an easy walk anywhere within the fort. Breakfast was nice - generous servings of fruit. We ordered eggs which was cooked well and of course, Sri Lankan coffee which never disappoints. We had dinner at the hotel one of the nights - the chef had recommended a lobster and a crab. Both were good though we felt that the prices were a bit steep, compared to any other hotel we had seafood at in Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, we loved our stay and hopefully will be back to visit soon!

We stayed here our first 3 nights of a 2 week vacation in Sri Lanka. First of all, if you have an old guide book, the drive from the Colombo airport no longer takes 4+ hours, thank God. There is a new highway that cuts the travel time, once you get through Colombo itself, to 1 hour. Not scenic but after a long flight we weren't looking for scenic!

We arrived in an absolutely deluge of rain and the staff hurried out with umbrellas to escort us, dry, into the hotel. We were given one of the rooms at the front of the hotel; either the Sun or the Moon; it was on the left side of the hotel if looking up from the street. It was spacious, clean, with its own balcony. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was well laid out. In the evening you can hear the live music from the restaurant but this is not a loud thump, thumping but just one or two musicians singing "unplugged" various pop standards so not upsetting. And they were finished before service ended in the restaurant so well before even we jet-lagged travellers went to bed.

Being right in the Galle Fort you can walk everywhere on your own within the Fort. Go out to the point and give the boys there a tip to dive into the ocean from the wall. Sounds cheesy but it was kind of fun to chat with them and cheer them on.

Breakfast. The most important meal of the day but so often such an un-inspiring meal when you are travelling. Not here! Here was what was included in just the fruit platter one morning; Apple slices, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, star fruit, orange sections, grapes, banana, watermelon and I think some papaya. Eggs were good. One could also order a local type of breakfast but I need to start my day with familiar things.

Our first evening meal was very light. We considered eating somewhere else our second night because, well, we were on vacation so one really should look around. However we were tired still from the travelling so ate in the hotel again. Ordered the jumbo prawns and the fish in a banana leaf pouch. So surprised to see the size of the jumbo prawns! They were like small lobster tails. Sweet, succulent, my mouth was so happy. And the fish my husband had was also delicious. That settled it, ate here the last night too.

I liked the small, "welcome to my place" kind of feel of this hotel. There isn't a big lobby, just a desk on the edge of the front verandah where the same gentlemen greeted us with a smile in the morning, when we returned from our day trip and in the evening when we came down for a meal. In the evenings you can eat just inside, on the verandah or out on the front lawn "al fresco". Lovely.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of the rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the street. Ours (Sun?) was...

Welcome message at the reception: 'This is not your hotel, this is your second home' . Accommodation, food, pool, entire staff, everything just perfect, keep on doing that way! The next time we are in Sri Lanka we will visit you again.

When staying in Galle the Fort area is second to none. When staying in Galle Fort Deco on 44 is one of the best options! The hotel is a gem of the 1930s beautifully restored, the restaurant serves excellent foot and service is impeccable. The only little letdown is the somewhat strange architecture of the rooms. They are huge cubicles around 4 meters high and a single wall of about 2 meters height seperates the bathroom facilities from the sleeping room thus allowing all the noises and odours to transvers unfiltered...

Very friendly,a home away from home, the staff were very helpful, cold towels and cold drinks on arrival and when we returned from the beach. The food was beautiful, breakfast was included and it was one of the best we had. We had a room near the pool which was very clean and spacious, they clean turn the bed back at night as well as the morning.Highly recommend this Boutique hotel.
