“Bit pricey”

Great place, beautiful, charming, great atmosphere. Food was not the best so not worth the extra paid.
Service was pretty good though, especially a good laugh seeing them all try to chase a stray dog out for us and other customers.

“Nice place, except for the food”
Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

Six of us went for dinner here and the best compliment we could give the food was the it was consistent. Consistently bad, but consistent nevertheless. Everything from salad to pasta to wraps to grilled and fried chickend was ordered, and every single dish was at best forcibly edible. It actually reminder me of university cafeteria food. Pity, considering that the building has some charm. The service was reasonably fast (by Galle Fort standards) but mechanical. Definitely won't be going back.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Visited this cafe/restaurant couple of days ago whilst stopping in Galle Fort for a couple of hours of sightseeing en route to Colombo. Chose this place on recommendation by Lonely Planet and quickly wished I hadn't done so. Food ranged from ok (my salad of prawns and avocado. Difficult to mess up...) to near inedible (my partner's club sandwich. One would have thought that too was tough to not get right, being quite the staple dish....). No effort whatsover when it comes to food (processed cheese, cold fried egg etc) and the service was far from smooth. The dual billing system makes for plenty of time for puzzled head-scratching. All in all disappointing. Oh, and totally overpriced. Nearly cried with frustration when glanced at the bar menu in nearby Galle Fort Hotel... a beautiful, historical hotel with real class which would have been perfect for our quick lunch in Galle... but no. Heritage Cafe it was and lessons were learnt. Lonely Planet will be approached with a pinch of salt from now on.

“Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Not intended to go to the heritage Cafe, place we wanted to go was closed.

Menu is interesting and a good variety of dishes on offer. No alcohol which is standard in the fort apart from the bigger hotels.

Place has a scruffy charm of its own, does not pretend to be anything else. basic but charming.

Service was Ok , nothing special. They do their job but with no enjoyment.

Food, now there is a different matter. My pernter had a really excellent Carbonara and my white prawn curry with a couple of vegtable dishes and rice was a joy.

Will not break the bank and for sure we will go back.

If you like a decent expresso, machiato etc this was the best in town. Nice ambience with sitting on street or quiet place in rear
