“I want to go back tomorrow!!”

This is my second time visiting this Kimbulagala Watte and I loved it even more the second time.

The first three days we just lay by watching monkeys playing in the trees and the spectacular sunsets. Combine this will great food and company and we were in heaven. For food the beetroot and pumpkin curries were my favourite but everything was delicious – especially the morning dose of tropical fruit and smoothies.

For days trips I would recommend; a trip to Galle – stroll round the lovely old fort and great shops; Marisa beach – try the local sea food and body surfing; and Wijaya beach for lunch watching the turtles in the surf.

The house staff were, as before, very attentive and made us feel very much a home. Everything from our welcome coconut to the comfy beds made me relax within days. I didn’t want to come home!!!

Definitely want to make a third trip

This was my second visit to 'Croc Rock' and it was as amazing as before. There are many beautiful places in Sri Lanka, but this is the best, with the view over the lake and pool from the house truely magical. We were served wonderfully by the staff and the food was delicious - from the range of currys to quiche and even when we asked for samosas, which weren't on the extenisve menu, they appeared for lunch straight out of the oven and were scrummy.
The villa's location is perfect, whether relaxing days at the house, trips to the beach or into Galle are wanted.
A wonderful holiday - I felt like I was away for such a long time (and could happily have stayed longer)!

“Another year and another fantastic holiday at Kimbulagala Watte.”

Having had such a fantastic holiday last year we immediately booked to come back again. We all have the most fantastic and relaxing break which is exactly what we needed. The staff were fantastic caring for our every needs. There is nothing like calling ahead for a Gin and tonic on your drive back from a hard day at the beach. The food was exceptional - I would advise everyone to try the beetroot and pumkin curries. The pool was perfect for cooling down and the verandas fantastic for bird and animal watching.
If you are thinking about booking to stay at this villa - go for it - you won't regret it.

This was by far the best place we stayed on our trip to Sri Lanka - it offered seclusion, peace, and stunning views over the lake. It was an amazing experience to sit outside at dusk and watch the sunset, whilst listening to the calls of the fishermen across the water.

The house had every luxury, but yet offered the comfort of a home. The staff were friendly and the food delicious - make sure you try the egg hoppers for breakfast!

I would love to be back there now.

My favourite spot is sitting on the veranda catching a cool breeze off the lake with a good book - which the house has plenty! Not only is the house comfortable, clean and relaxing the home cooked food is delicious. For those who cannot detach from the cyber world, yes, there is fast wifi! If you can prise yourself from the house it is an easy ride to clean white beaches, shops, bars and hotels. To the west on Mantara Road there is Wijaya beach - Unawatuna - Galle. Along the way you can visit a sea turtle hatchery, beach bars and local stalls selling crafts, liquor (local stuff = arrack) and just as you get to Galle there is a large food and fish market. In Galle you can go watch some beloved cricket, walk around the fort and do a spot of shopping. To the east there is one of my favourite beaches - Marissa beach - peaceful, clean and excellent waves. There is so much to explore and experience in Sri Lanka, I suggest you just go and discover for yourself and Kimbulagala Watte is a good location to start!

“Wonderful villa in a perfect location”

Kimbulagala Watte ("Crocodile Rock" in English) is really beautiful, it's on a hill overlooking a lagoon so there's always a breeze. The house is very spacious, fantastic master bedroom en suite, lovely antiques, masses of books. There's a fabulous diving pool - no swimming in the lake as there really are crocodiles ! We loved watching the monkeys in the trees, the birdlife and the sunsets. The house is within easy reach of Galle, lots of shops & places to eat, and very historic. We also went on a day trip to Yala Game Reserve (early morning start) and enjoyed stopping at Dondra Lighthouse on the way back. But you really don't need to travel far from the house - locally there are escorted bike rides, boat trips on the lake, spoiling massages on the veranda, a very interesting local tea plantation, stilt fishermen, a turtle hatchery, and organised surfing & scuba diving for our young. Whale watching at Mirissa where there's a lovely beach. The Kimbulagala Watte staff looked after us wonderfully, delicious fish & seafood from the markets, nothing was too much trouble, we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Highly recommended !

After a long journey which involved a connecting flight at Mumbai airport (I would recommend going direct if you can) we arrived at what has to be one of the most beautiful houses I have ever seen. To think we would be there for 10 days was a dream. We were immediately drawn to walk through the beautiful open plan living/dinning room onto the terrace which overlooked the swimming pool and the incredible view of the lake. We sat down to our first meal which was delicious and tried to take in the surroundings. The rooms are very spacious and the beds were all very comfortable. The food that was cooked for us was incredible and we always welcomed the suggestions of the chef (as long as it wasn't too hot !) There are limitless things to do near the house and the Tuc Tuc's are a great way to see everything. This was without doubt my best holiday and I would highly recommend staying in this house to anyone.
