Great position overlooking fort across to the ocean. Locals playing cricket on the green on fort. Lovely atmosphere. Nice & quiet with lovely sea breezes nice stroll to restaurants & shops. Room was small but clean & staff very attentive & polite. No towels provided for bathroom otherwise no problems. We ate at their restaurant which was also good. Also used their TUK TUK driver "Lal" to show us around & start us on the next leg of our journey. A very honest man. Great driver. Thank you for the stay. Hi to Lal.

Simple yet charming and well located Guest House to visit Galle with welcoming staff!! The Dinning room on the top of the hotel has a great view on the Sea side - particularly enjoyable for breakfast!

Galle was the last destination we were visiting on our back packing tour of Sri Lanka and my partner was very keen on staying in the fort (she had visited this place earlier and wanted to stay here). We got a contact through a friend in Nuwara Eliya who guided us to the Fort Dew Guest House. The accommodations are good and totally worth the price that we paid for it. They had these chairs and tables on the common balcony where we could sit in evening and enjoy the breeze from the sea. The room was pretty comfortable. Basic but maintained well and clean. There was no hot water in the room that was given to us (the heater did not seem to be working). But that was alright since it was quite humid and hence did not bother us. There is also a very nice roof top restaurant where you can relax and totally relax. The service here is really good and the manager also is a very friendly person. Night life within the fort is almost dead. Everything shuts early and there is nothing much you can do. There is no television in the room too. So we just had a couple of drinks on the first night and on the second night, went for a beach side party to Unnatawanga which is about 6 Kilometers from Fort Galle. Either ways I would recommend this place to travellers visiting Galle and wanting to stay in the Fort. By the way for people who love crepes, go to this restaurant called Crepe-ology in the fort area itself and have the 'Happy Ending' for dessert. Pretty awesome :)

Room Tip: Try and get the rooms in the front to enjoy the view from the balcony.

We really liked this place as it felt quite homely. Unfortunately, there was building work going on while we were there, so it was pretty noisy. Luckily as we were out during the day, we only experienced it occasionally but afternoon naps were probably out of the question.

However, it was a nice room with a hot shower and very comfortable bed.

The staff were very polite and the roof-top restaurant a blessing as Galle was HOT! It was very refreshing to sit with an ice-cold drink (they chill the glasses - we had the coldest drinks in Sri Lanka here) and the food was very tasty, even if the service was quite slow. But it was nice to chill out in the breeze while waiting for our food.

There is a grassland opposite, with a buddist shrine and then the ramparts overlooking the ocean. The sunset is spectacular and worth going to sit on the rampart walls in the evening to watch it set. It's great to watch the locals playing cricket (often with a few passing cricket tourists), the early morning army training and school children playing from the roof-top...sometimes all at the same time!

They also organised an excellent driver to take us directly to the airport (3 hours via the Highway) for 8000 rupees which seemed to be the standard price. No need to stay near the airport unless you have an early flight. We paid 4,500 per night for an A/C room. ($34 / £22)

Would definitely recommend staying here for your time in Galle.

This place is very adequate for a few days in Galle. The rooms are basic but clean. The rooftop restaurant is lovely with views over the Fort. Recommended!
