I loved Nico's. When I read that it was a hip place for cocktails I feared it might be pretentious but not at all. A beautiful setting. Attentive service and a very delicious dinner. We chatted to the owner who apart from making me green with envy as she is totally stunning, was very sweet and friendly. We were the only diners as it was raining and all the more charming for that. Serenity.

Upon recommendations from friends, unfortunately for us, we came for dinner on our 2nd last night so didn't have time to come back for more!

The menu may be small but every dish was done well and was delicious. It is not a place to be in a hurry as the service is relaxed - this leaves lots of time to enjoy the ambience.

This was our best dining experience outside our villa (compared to The Fortress, Amangalla) and we wished we had a chance to return.

Visited for a late lunch and really liked the food, especially the desserts. A bit expensive compared to other places in the area, but worth the money spent.

My boyfriend and I visited for dinner a few days ago and we had mixed feelings about this place. The reviews looked promising so we booked in advance and was kindly guided to the property by Deepak their Manager who was very helpful over the phone.

The setting and ambiance is lovely. A large pool, ample privacy, great tunes and a wonderfully tarped deck area which I reckon would be great for lunch in the shade.

We opted for a table by the pool, and Deepak stirred up two FABULOUS cocktails - one was Gin and Mint and the other a Wasabi cocktail. There were no mounds of ice and sugar in these cocktails, they were smooth yet potent. We enjoyed both of these on a raised up deck overlooking the sea. Thanks to poya a full moon peeped at us through the coconut trees and made for some great photos. Seating is comfortable, tables are nicely laid out and there is a typically european small menu. I have always felt small menus show strength and confidence in a chef but it didnt seem to be the case here - dinner was disappointing.

We chose a mezze platter and chicken and mango salad to start. Pita bread was superb, I think maybe it was baked inhouse? but there was just one. It came with Babaganoush , Homous and a curd dip which were all pretty good. Chicken and Mango Salad was good. Salad was fresh and Chicken was cooked nicely. For mains we had seafood pasta with black pepper and pesto - it was oily and didnt taste of pesto or black pepper. We also had a Prawn green curry which came with a papodum, kangkung and a big portion of rice. A little disjointed, beautifully presented. The prawns were cooked nicely but the curry was lacking 'lunu ambul' as we Sri Lankans call it (saltiness and sourness in balance) We opted out of desert and was surprised to find ourselves with a bill in excess of 7000 rupees to which we were informed we couldnt pay by card. Deepak was very hospitable about this and suggested we paid at their newly opened Cafe in Galle where we were going to be the next day as opposed to coming back to Thalpe from where we were staying. He apologised he didnt tell us in advance which we appreciated.

Nicos offers a unique combination of great service and a wonderful setting. Deepak's cocktails were amazing and can rival Paradise Road Gallery Cafe's cocktails. Had the food been on par with this the price tag would be justified.
