“Request a table in the courtyard”
Reviewed March 15, 2013 via mobile

Booked here for Valentines day as I was looking for somewhere a bit more upmarket. There are two dining areas - one is in a large open room just through the main front door and close to the street, the other is in a courtyard with a little pool further into the building. It was obviously a busy night and the only table available for us was in the outer area. I felt it lacked atmosphere and it seemed as though the tables in the inner courtyard were prioritised by the waiters.

The staff themselves even seem to acknowledge that the inner courtyard is the better place to sit as tables in this part are reserved in case a resident wants to eat in. One of the things that affected the atmosphere most however was that there was no music in the outer area (just the noise of whizzing fans) while music could be heard in the lounge and courtyard areas.

The food was good and the lobster curry interesting even if the curry was a bit overpowering for the (decent portion of) lobster. Quite a few desserts and a few starters unavailable even at the start of the night which was only pointed out to us as we ordered them. Overall, a nice if pricey place to eat but if you're going to splash out for the night, at least ensure you get one of the nicer tables.

“Intimate candlelit setting”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

We wandered Galle one evening, seeking somewhere less cafe and more upmarket for dinner, and came across the Fort Printers. It has an intimate candlelit setting in an inner courtyard by a small pool. Great for couples.

Our meal was excellent- we had Mezzes, a tagine and a Sri Lankan curry and good old banana fritters and banana split. Loved it.

“Beautiful hotel, great staff”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

An absolutely beautiful hotel, every detail has been thought out carefully. The staff were really friendly without being overbearing. The food was reasonably priced and really good and the location was brilliant.

“Lacked atmosphere”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Having looked at the menu ( which is expensive ) but thought it was worth a visit .Loved the choice of starters ,and the mains .It does serve wine with meals.Maybe because we were the only people in the restaurant I felt it lacked atmosphere !!

“A little disappointing”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We enjoyed a good meal and the staff were pleasant, but overall we felt the mood was a little stuffy, which took the edge off the experience. It was also the most costly evening of our time in Galle. The one saving grace of the evening was that alcohol was available.
