Stayed in October for 2 nights. It is a lovely hotel which used to be Naval officers quarters 250 years ago. Make sure you see the admirals quarters upstairs or if you can afford it stay there. The other rooms are spacious and furnished with period furniture. The bed is very big and super comfy. Wifi is good but the TV did cut out in heavy rain. The rooms are a bit dark. The bathroom is not aircon but that is not an issue. There are peacocks that roam the courtyard and white rabbits as well as monkeys in the trees.
It is a short tuk-tuk drive to Galle and maybe the hotel could offer a shuttle bus but I'm sure it is not too expensive to order one. You can walk down to the Jetwing hotel near the beach easily. I am not sure what the beach is like, must be ok if there is a Jetwing there. The hotel pool is cool and very nice with big sunbeds, just watch the slippery white paint on the concrete.
The staff are incredible, always keen to look after us. Sangeeth our waiter was very attentive and Lakmal is an excellent chef. It was our anniversary and the staff went out of their way to make us feel special and we are very thankful for those memories.More
