The Tamarind Hotel is a lovely place. The rooms are large, with huge bathrooms and great hot showers. The pool area is peaceful and private. The first issue hat we had with this place is that it is NOT where it says it is on their website. It's approximately 3 km from the fort area, down a busy road. We walked it several times but it's dangerous and extremely hot. The other issue we had was with the hotel Manager. We had booked several things using local guides outside of the hotel. He would try to tell us that we spent too much and that he could make the arrangements for us. We stuck with our original plans and found out that he was forcing our driver to pay him a bribe in order to come onto the property. We met another guest that said the same thing. Her drivers were sent away by the manager because they wouldn't pay the 'commission'. She was therefore forced to have the Manager arrange transportation as her rides were regularly 'not showing up' (being sent away!) So if you decide to stay here, beware of this! We personally will not stay here again, specifically because of the manager. He should not be trusted.

I was at the hotel for the last couple of days, had an amazing time. there was a helper at the hotel name shane. He gave us the best experience you ever imagine of from recommending good Sri Lanka dishes to sharing his insight knowledge of galle fort. the best menu i had was the Sri Lankan tradional breakfast and the lunch.

We spent only one night in this hotel. It feels like a huge mansion converted to a hotel. The swimming pool is outstanding and has an 'infinity pool' sort of feel - it looks even better in the night. It was an experience to swim under the stars. The best part....there are no mosquitoes in this hotel (which swarm the entire country), which was such a relief! The place is quite and peaceful, a wonderful recluse from the crazy traffic and city life.

The rooms are huge, and the bathrooms are really grand! The rooms are tastefully decorated, and make you feel like a Duchess in the colonial times. There is an LCD TV in the rooms as well with a number of channels.

I had requested for a Sri Lankan breakfast - it was as authentic as it could get. The fresh fruit juice was delicious too. My husband requested for a Continental breakfast, which satiated him too. The service is perfect. Everyone greets you with a smile and makes you feel at home - they make you feel truly welcome! Make sure you take recommendations on dinner places/tourism tip from the manager - you will be grateful for the same!

The only drawback - the villas are a little away from the sea. So, if you are looking for a vacation where you can dip in the sea and then run for a dip in the pool, this is not your place. If you are looking for a place that takes you back to the colonial times, coupled by outstanding service and incredible food, this is the place to be!

We booked this hotel through Agoda in April 2011 and paid in full. We confirmed the booking 1 week before arriving and all was good. We then turned up on 29/12 to be confronted by an extremely rude manager saying "Who are you?"

We explained that we had a booking and showed our voucher and he said "We don't have any rooms, you've been moved to a place in Hikaduwa" (25km away). We asked why we weren't contacted and he just said "Not our problem, speak to Agoda". I told him his attitude stunk and we were hustled out onto the street to avoid upsetting the other guests.

We spoke to the Managing Director who explained that his manager seemed rude because he'd been living in Dubai (??????) and he explained he couldn't help but wanted to apologize "on behalf of Sri Lanka". I explained that Sri Lanka was not the problem, his hotel was.

They proceeded to lie to us, first stating that they'd never heard of us. I replied "how do you know where our booking has been transferred to?". They then changed the story to the booking being changed 3 months ago. I asked why they confirmed our booking a week ago and they changed their story again to it was changed that morning.

A wedding party had taken over the hotel and it was obvious that a couple of extra guests had turned up so we were bumped. Entirely unacceptable.

Luckily there had been 2 cancellations at the Lighthouse next door otherwise we'd have been stuck out on the street with no accommodation. Essentially we paid for 2 rooms we never recieved and are still to get our money back.

This was an outrageously bad experience and I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. The manager in particular is a complete and utter scumbag.

Amazing hotel...from the welcome reception from the manager through to the exquisitely designed rooms. Lots of private areas gives the impression that even if all 11 rooms are full, there is still plenty of space.
The pool was superb, and the hotel surprised husband with a cake when they discovered it was his birthday. They then asked for the room key on the pretext of having to clean the room, and we found later that they had painstakingly folded towels into 2 swans surrounded by rose petals and a birthday message on the bed!
We were there with friends, and loved every minute of our stay. The staff were fantastic, and the place was a serene oasis which we were sad to leave. Free wifi, and the staff will give you food to feed the bright green parrot which visits at breakfast time.
We will return!
