Nisala was by far above our already high expectations. The fantasic "garden of eden" like surroundings, the wonderful staff, thank you Sena and Tony, and of coarse our hosts Ben and his wife who make you feel totally at home. They would take you on beautiful excursions, the best we had in Sri Lanka, from river boat trips to visiting the Bawa estate. You could spend your days with as much activities as you like, but doing nothing is also a great option. Last but not least we have to compliment the chef. The food was superb. Next to great Sri Lankan curries, the tastiest we had on the island, he made a pasta carbonara that's even hard to find in Italy. We were sad to leave, but will come back for sure!

My boyfriend and I stayed in Nisala Arana during our two week holiday in Sri Lanka.

Throughout the booking stages, Ben was exceedingly helpful and we had regular contact via email.

He picked us up straight from the airport in his jeep and it was nice to see a friendly face when we arrived in Colombo after our long journey.

Our bungalow was absolutely stunning, in beautiful grounds with an outside shower room. It was stylish and colonial in it's design and the outside shower room was divine. After a long plane journey, showering looking up at the sky is something I will never forget.

There is a very good sized pool and due to there only being a few bungalows, it's never crowed. One one day, my boyfriend and I had the place to ourselves.

They serve a good range of lunch and dinner options and breakfast is served until late morning.

It's also well situated, very near the beach and the shops and restaurants in Bentota.

Ben also has a gorgeous Moris Minor and his driver can take you on trips to the local turtle sanctuary like we did.

We had a wonderfully relaxing three nights and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this to anyone visiting Bentota.

We booked this place as our 'beach hotel' stopover on a ten day honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka. It was recommended by the travel advisor on a website called Fleewinter as a great option for a quiet, off-the-beaten-track beach holiday.

Off the beaten track it is, being a good ten minute drive from the main road (and the beach). The walled grounds are beautifully tended, with coconut trees everywhere, a resident heron and family of woodpeckers, a small but very picturesque pool and extremely attentive staff.

The beach being too far away for us lazy bums, we spent our 4 days at the hotel; reading, taking naps in the hammock, and letting the staff spoil us rotten. We did throw in an underwhelming day trip to Galle, which was good just for variety's sake.

The rooms in the Mango Wing are comfortable, with twin four poster beds and a little balcony. The Doctor's house is by far the best appointed, although normally booked by larger groups. The Coconut wing has double beds and ground floor accomodation. Rooms in the Mango wing are the only ones which do not have open air showers, a step too close to nature which we were not prepared to take!

A word of caution, though: If you are not a big fan of creepy crawlies, this place is not for you! Lizards abound at night, as do all manner of flying things. Squirrels running about in the eaves are not unusual at all, especially in the Pavillion where meals are served. And if you absolutely must be on the beach, then look elsewhere.

The staff are extremely polite and attentive, right from the owners to the gardeners, and make you feel like royalty. They are very conscious of special eating needs and will do their best to accomodate your needs. Due to the paucity of any decent restaurants in the area and the sheer hassle of going into town for a doubtful meal at a tourist trap, it is best to book Half Board.

Lizards and bugs aside, this place is a great option for a relaxing couple of days in a beautiful setting with people to look after your every need.

  • Liked — Grounds and extreme attentiveness of owners and staff
  • Disliked — Lizards, lizards everywhere

We Stayed here for a week at the end of a busy 8 day tour of Sri Lanka. We booked via a UK Company called Fleewinter .

We were in the coconut wing and had a large room and amazing outdoor bathroom.Showering in the rain toghther really is romantic!

Nen,Kevin and Gill the oweners and the staff look after you in everyway possible .The setting is tranquil and the food is first class and at a price that its not worth getting a tuc tuc to topwn (or the hassel)

Ben looked after us a treat and nothing I mean nothing was too much trouble.

Doing Yoga in the gardens was a great way to unwind and having treatments in the gardens a lovely treat.

We wre sad the Morris Minor was off the road but our trips in the Tuc Tuc were great .All the staff are lovely and kind people
