“A peaceful and beautiful hideaway...”
Reviewed August 31, 2012 via mobile

We had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful boutique hotel for 3 nights (me, my wife and our 2 young children). It was an excellent introduction to our holiday in Sri Lanka as this place is filled with beautiful gardens, singing birds and all round calmness. Just right if you want to relax after a long journey. It was really nice to be greeted so warmly on our arrival. Food was superb, service was very good and always with a smile from the two waiters ready to tell us about the freshly cooked Sri Lankan dish they are serving. Accommodation is perfect, spacious and very clean. Mosquito nets are provided and installed properly. I had asked in advance for a special treat and the manager suggested we got a visit from an elephant which we could feed fruit etc. This was all arranged and we had a wonderful experience with a visit from a 13 yr old female elephant! The children loved this of course. Highly recommend.

We spent the first four nights of our honeymoon at Nisala Arana. It is the best hotel we have ever stayed in, although it is more like staying with a host family than a hotel. We were picked up from the airport and driven down to the property. We drove through the gates into an amazing garden and were greeted by the Pereira family who run the hotel. We were staying in the Coconut Suite, which was lovely and had a wonderful veranda. We put our stuff in our room and then went and sat on the sofa in the pavilion and promptly fell asleep! When we woke up we were served the most amazing crab curry. The Pereiras were great hosts, they introduced us to Sri Lankan food, gradually upping the spiciness of the food and letting us try different dishes and laid on wonderful excursions. The trip to Sinharaja was amazing (be warned it's a long journey and the road is very bumpy) - we had a great guide and saw so many wonderful animals. We also really enjoyed an evening sitting on the beach with a bottle of bubbly watching the sun go down. It was a fabulous start to our stay in Sri Lanka and we have very fond memories of Nisala Arana. In the evening we would sit and read, watch the birds and the lizards in the garden. It was paradise. Try the Arack Sours, they're fabulous!

My wife and I met a chum and his wife for two weeks in Sri Lanka,he and I had been volunteers there in 1968. We stayed at the sister hotel Mount Lodge in Columbo which was excellent- great egg hoppers!

We then were driven down to Nisala Arana and this is a tropical paradise, so relaxing ,the Pereira family make you feel you are guests in their house, excellent food, lovely pool and some great places to visit nearby.

I can recommend it without hesitation

Room Tip: The showers open to the sky are fun!

We had a lovely night staying here, the gardens are so beautiful it was like a little piece of heaven. I loved the room we stayed in, with its outside bathroom, and beautiful Sri Lankan furniture. We had a lot of fun in the pool, and power lounging. Food was also yummy, all in all it was a brilliant end to our holiday.

Its a really nice place for peace and tranquility.
The style and the design are perfect.
The food is delisious and the garden with the pool are magic.
It was for us the best place in our Sri lanka trip
I recommend it to everybody (if the price don't rebuts you)

My husband and I were attending a wedding party at Nisala Arana in February. We have never been to Sri Lanka and decided to do some traveling while we were there. We visited Nisala Arana once we arrived in Bentota as we wanted to see where the party would be. Having never been there before we were a bit lost as to where to go and what to see. Not only did Mr Pereira give us great advice as to places to visit, he also had great insight as to where to stay while in Bentota. He went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my husband and I had a great vacation. The staff was most accommodating. The food was amazing. The location and setting of Nisala Arana is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been. If we have the fortunate opportunity to visit Sri Lanka again, we would definitely stay at Nisala Arana each and every time. It is a rare gem.

My wife and i stayed for 4 days in January, and couldnt have asked for a more idyllic experience. This place deserves all the hyperbole it attracts; the peaceful serenity of the surroundings (punctuated only by the distant, chirpy melody of the bread truck!), the informal hospitality of the staff (especially Ben and his family), plus the well appointed rooms with outdoor showers. Hiring a bike to explore the surrounding area plus the river boat expedition to the Pahura Kanda temple upriver are activities that should not be missed. A truly unforgettable experience, and a more sedate and authentic way to enjoy the delights of Bentota.
