We stayed here for four nights in mid-December at the end of our trip. We stayed at some great places in Sri Lanka, but this was our favourite, and possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Food was superb (and reasonably priced), cocktails and other drinks excellent. Service was unobtrusive and yet first class; king coconut at midday and afternoon tea on the house two of the highlights. Staff generally leave you alone but are always on hand if you need something, and whatever you need, they provide.
The hotel itself is stunning, with striking communal areas and a huge, immaculate garden (barely has a leaf touched the ground before it's scooped up), a lovely pool, gorgeous rooms (a/c, fans and mosquito net and all with a private outdoor space) and a thirty second walk to the beach. True, the rail tracks pass the end of the garden (between the hotel and the beach), but trains are infrequent and for us, rather than being an annoyance, they added to the character of the place.
We had deliberately booked Club Villa for a relaxing few days at the end of our holiday, and we certainly got that - it was so good that other than the odd stroll along the beach, we never left the hotel.
