This is a family home converted to traveler stay. We spent one night at this place. Though the place is close to the beach, but that's the only good thing about it. Sugar given with dinner had dead ants inside it. Given that we were the only couple occupying a room among 4-5 rooms that family has, service could have been better. Bread butter was the only vegetarian item in breakfast. Only bananas available as fruits in dinner. Reading collections were good. Old Reader's Digest are available for reading, dating back quite a few years. Most of the literature available to read is in German. Though family is quite friendly, but gave so many instructions not to do this & that we felt like we had come to a hostel where warden asks students not to break things apart.

Friendly and hospitable family, decent accommodation by Sri Lankan standards, close to a perfect beach, several restaurants and shops nearby. The only drawback is the road in front of the villa but you can hardly avoid it in Sri Lanka...

Mihin Residence is located in a quiet countryside location approx 1.5-2km from the beach. It has two ensuite bedrooms (with fans), a kitchen/sitting area, veranda and garden. The accommodation is basic but for the price (which included breakfast) it is adequate. We liked the quiet location with all the wildlife on our doorstep (mongooses, squirrels, and birds keeping us entertained) with the stunning and uncrowed beaches at Bentota/Aluthgama a short cycle away. As we stayed 3 nights we had free use of bicycles to get around (recommended if you're this far from things!) We had our breakfast served in the garden at Mihin Villa, the main property with rooms for rent near the beach where you can use the free wi-fi (can't comment on the rooms available here as we didn't see them). Choice of western (white toast, egg, marg, and jam) or Sri Lankan (rice and curry). Dinner can be ordered in advance if you wish to have it there, you can request your preferred level of spiciness. We ate there one evening, the food was good (vegetarian rice and curry) - portions are very generous and the food was tasty, if a bit salty, but I found most of the food in Sri Lanka very salty as I don't tend to use much normally. Mahinda and his wife are very nice and really try to make you feel welcome and happy. We had arranged an airport pick-up from them and that was good - we were met at arrivals, had a nice clean Toyota Prius and safe driver to bring us to the property where they had a complementary breakfast waiting for us. The price was very reasonable.

Room Tip: I've only given it 3 stars as overall it is quite basic, but for the price, if you like to be in a quiet spot away from the main tourist drag, it's quite good value for money for Bentota

This is really a review for Mihin Residence which also belongs to Mr Siriwardana. We spent six weeks there. This is a small bungalow further inland and set in a coconut plantation. It consists of 2 bedrooms and open plan lounge/kitchen. The bedrooms are hired out separately so if you find it difficult to share this might not be suitable for you. The cooking facilities are very basic, at first a one ring gas cooker and then Mr S got us a two ring cooker which was better. There is also a Red Cross water filter so you can drink the water from the well and don't have to buy bottled mineral water. Remember there is no plastic recycling in Sri Lanka, it ends up in landfill or the ocean! The bedrooms each have their own toilet and electric shower so there is warm water for showering but not for washing up.
The living area is also basic, bare bulbs on the end of a bit of wiring protruding from the walls but that is not unusual in Sri Lanka. There is a little table and four chairs and two camping chairs to sit out on the verandah.
There are two bicycles included which are essential as the residence is in the middle of the village, a 5 minute ride from the Villa and 10-15 minutes from Aluthgama, the nearby town with all the shops and restaurants. There is a small corner shop right next to the residence and a variety of little shops along the Galle Road into Aluthgama. We got to know all the little back roads through Bentota to Aluthgama, areas you wouldn't see if you are just in the touristy bits. Bring head torches or similar because the bikes don't have lights and it gets dark at 18.00.
There is no WIFI at the residence but there is at the Villa. Also as it is inland it is not near the beach however, we parked our bikes safely at the Villa and it is a 3 minute walk from there to the beach and the fun of having your own bikes is that you can go to other parts of the beach easily.
We had breakfast included, there is a Sri Lankan option of dhal, coconut sambol, bananas and rice or a Western breakfast of white bread toast, jam, eggs and bananas.
We did all our housekeeping ourselves but we got clean sheets, towels and beach towels once per week. There is a gardener who comes there most days all day long but he is quiet and discreet and keeps out of your way.
This was our first time out of Europe and we really felt we fell on our feet with the Mihin Residence. Mr Siriwardana and family were very helpful and attentive and the accommodation gave us a very good base to explore the local area. It was close enough to town to make shopping easy but far enough away from the main road to be quiet and peaceful.

we stayed 2 days in Bentota and we enjoyed very much the familiar atmosphere in the house.
The room is not very big but clean. The meal was very delicious. The beach is not far away and
it doesn't matter to walk a short time. We got good advices for day trips. We enjoyed the small
but lovely garden behind the house.
