“Friendly staff and total relaxation!”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

My husband and I have just returned from an excellent stay of 6 nights at the Avani after having done the tour. It was perfect, in terms of the setting and the amenities. We had a downstairs room which opened out on to the lawn, with each of the two pools ofset to the left and right. The view of the sea and the beach was perfect. We had the large shower in the bathroom, and an ingenious two way opening wardrobe from the bathroom and bedroom. The staff were so friendly, and really looked after the guests. On our arrival we weren't happy that the room had been properly cleaned, I suspect it had been closed up for a bit, and hadn't been freshened up for our arrival, but in fairness we rang housekeeping and within 5 mins there were three staff members there, totally dusting moping, and changing everything, they were mortified that we hadn't been happy. The response was immediate, and we had absolutely no reason to complain again. The cocktails were delicious, and inexpensive, and the bar staff were very friendly. The food at the Frangipani was good, although quite spicy, and the breakfast had a really good variety and range, although the coffee could be a bit hit and miss. The evening buffet at the Breeze Restaurant was ok, although in fairness I did tire of the buffet style of dining, as i feel you end up with such a selection that you almost feel as if you can't quite tell which flavour is which! In conclusion I would say that this is an excellent hotel, where the staff are very hardworking and friendly, and they are keen to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Room Tip: Go for a downstairs room, all rooms have a sea view, although up by the top pool seaview is obscured...

Firstly I must thank all the reviews provided by the people about this hotel and it was surely more than our expectations. The Superior room though might be considered small in size but it is really very comfortable for 2 people with cozy beddings, nice collection of TV channels, locker, clean and tidy bathrooms. We loved the buffet and didnt feel the need to try food anywhere else as for the price of 1590 LKR it had good varieties for all kind of tastes. The rooms are facing the pool and the beach as we were in 2 floor the view of the sunset and the beach was awesome. If possible ask for rooms on the 2nd floor. The service I felt was a bit slow but I guess thats what you want when you are on a holiday. The pool was clean and a real nice place to relax and read book. Overall I will give full rating to the hotel and would highly recommend without any doubts.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: We took a cab till Galle Fort for LKR (around 1.5 hrs one way). The fort was real good small Dutch town and it is worth a walk around the town. The view of the sea is awesome from the fort. Then we went to Hikkidua which has coral reefs and this we didnt like much as most of it is destroyed due to tsunami and price tag of 5000 LKR is too high. The turtle farms are worth one watch but again highly priced at 1000 LKR.

Room Tip: Superior was really superior and I would recommend the same

My wife and I had a family reunion at the resort. The beach was lovely as was the swimming pool, that came in handy when either the waves were too rough, or it started to rain. The food was fanastic. It was perfect for relaxing.

We are still here on our last day at the hotel and have had a lovely, relaxing week. We spent our first week in Sri Lanka touring and the Avani has been the perfect place to unwind before returning home to UK. The hotel has a calm, relaxing atmosphere with very friendly and welcoming staff. the rooms are clean and comfortable with all usual facilities. There is a train track close to the hotel. on arrival we were really concerned about this but overall it did not impact on our enjoyment. The rain shower, or should I say shower room was great and we could have spent hours standing under it. The buffet food over the week was a bit samey and could be more varied. More international food. Last night the hotel put on a BBQ on the beach under the stars and looking out on the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by candlelight was idyllic. It did incur an extra cost on top of our half board cost which was over priced for what it was. Nevertheless it was something special. The pool man is great and organises a sun bed for us each morning. The beach, the public beach is only a couple of footsteps from the hotel. There are security staff on duty which make you feel safe. The sea at this time of year is for paddling not swimming. The red flags have been out all week. On the whole a lovely hotel and one we would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the back of the hotel closer to beach.

After 10 days of super intense tour of Sri Lanka we spent our last night at the Avani Bentota resort. We could not end our amazing trip in a better way.
Amazing resort, beautiful structure, room are big and fully equipped, great swimming pool and views of the beach right from the room or the lobby resort.
Quality and variety of food really nice for both dinner and breaky.
Staff was very gentle and warming.
Worth a longer stay!

We stayed in the Avani Bentota Resort and Spa for the last week of our stay in Sri Lanka, as a relaxation period after visiting all the sites. We couldn't have picked a better place to end our amazing holiday.

We were shown to our room on the 3rd floor which had phenomenal views of the swimming pool, and just a few metres beyond this, the beach and sea. The room was extremely comfortable, with a huge bed, large bathroom and lovely balcony on which we could relax with stunning views.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Just a short walk or tuk-tuk ride from Aluthgama train station, and 20 seconds from one of the best sandy beaches we have ever experienced in our lives. Although there were red flags out for the duration of our stay, there were life guards on the beach who advised we could go out to our waist level. The sea is so shallow that this is easily possible, without concern.

The food at the hotel is stunning. The breakfast buffet was great. And the A la carte restaurant, although quite pricey (for Sri Lanka anyway), provided food that would not be out of place at a Michelin starred restaurant (I strongly recommend the stir fry squid- the best I have ever had). The hotel is close enough to other restaurants if you wish to adventure outside as well, which was a bonus.

The staff at this hotel could not have been more friendly or more enthusiastic. The cleaners were always keen to ensure that you were happy with your room; the receptionists were charming; the restaurant workers couldn't do enough for you, our glasses were never empty and the service could not be faulted; those working by the pool helped to make our stay at this hotel- they were always smiling and enquiring as to whether we were ok! We really cannot thank them enough. Every member of staff, even the owner of the hotel, made an effort to ensure we were happy, and they all remembered the day we were leaving (even if we had told them on the first day) and asked if there was anything they could do to make our stay that much more memorable. Honestly, I cannot think of anything at all.

The only slight niggle we had was that we could hear the trains from our room (only about 3 a day), but that really did not detract from our stay at all.

We could not recommend this hotel more. You will be looked after!

Avani is deceptively small. however its open plan lobby and free flowing air to the beach is very welcoming. The location for the beach is brilliant with very easy access. There is an standard restaurant and a buffet. We had the seafood platter which was just delicious. It included whole lobster, sear fish, large whole prawns and cuttle fish. the buffet was quite good with freshly grilled pork loin as a speciality. the resort has good facilities and had a decent swedish massage. We stayed here 2 nights and the bed was very modern with nicely finished bathrooms with patio.

My only problem with avani is that you have to pay for your booking on arrival, not very hospitable...the room smelt a bit damp. I can only attribute this to the sea breeze. Also it is situated next the railway so expect very loud horns. whilst not a problem for us, it could be for others.

Night entertainment was appreciated and romantic

the price was suitable and staff were helpful, The beach is beautiful but be weary of the sea if you are not a confident swimmer the currents are hard work, I hired a bodyboard off some chap on the beach for an hr and was exhausted to say the least. Make sure you are being watched at all times (by someone confident enough to save you!). I have seen people drown in Sri Lankan waters so be careful.

Room Tip: we were in 111, it is a good room. I think this was one up from the standard room.
