Allthough w e`ve booked a Sujperior room (Last minute offer) we got a deLuxe room. The best
way to earn friends is,spending some money to the driver and boys directly after arrival.
I
The only minus have been the mosquitos.Try to get something against them in a local
pharmacia.Ive been the 4th time in different hotels in Sri Lanka.
This one was the best!

Having just returned from my third visit to this hotel l can only say that our experience gets better and better with each visist.
Whilst the journey from the airport is a couple of hours it is well worth it, the hotel is located in a wonderful posistion on the beautiful ocean and a lake, this allows you the best of both worlds , the tranquillity of the lake and the glorious experience of the beach and the sea.
The hotel is currently being renovated, which we knew before booking, and although the work is going on it was not intrusive at all.
The staff in the hotel from the roomboys to the managers are all ,without exception happy, helpful and really do make this a place to stay. The management have staff who really wish to please the customer and take care a pride in seeking to make your stay very enjoyable.
Whlist we were there there was a "poya day" and we took part in an experience of attending a temple with the staff, taking part in the giving of gifts and attending prayers, it was really an opportunity to understand more about the country and the people, the hotel staff made us feel included, ensured that we knew , along with many other guests what to do and what was happening it really was a educating experience.
The food in this hotel is brilliant, and cannot be faulted, the chefs are of the highest quality and ready to please! we also took the opprtunity to eat "al acarte" during our stay and l can only decribe this as exceptional, more should try this l would really recommend it!

A fantatsic hotel which made for a brilliant holiday, relaxing, beautiful surroundings and a wonderful ethos to the customer

We absouletly loved this hotel. The grounds are beautiful and really compliment the hotel. The beach is on your doorstep and is gorgeous. The staff are an absolute credit to this hotel, they really look after you whether its by the pool, in the restaurant, cleaning your room or getting your drinks in the lounge bar, you are their upmost priority. We are English so are popular anyway as the Sri Lankans love our politeness and good manners, so you may get your sun loungers saved for you and were were given the river view table as the Manager loved that we complimented the hotel and the staff, we didnt even ask he just did ! That is what they are like so eager to please. The food was delicious and fresh. Trips were exhausting, we left at 5am for the elephant trip and it was a five hour car journey then the tour guide dragged us about all day to places we didnt want to go to ! And we got back to the hotel (in Kandy) at 8 at night. Then we had to do it all over again the next day !! Views of tea plantation/moutains breath taking but I would not recommend the trips although Im glad we did it, the tour guide was getting back handers everywhere to places/restaurants we werent bothered about. Look into it and go with the locals. Also the hotel does have a lot of germans and russians who I have to say I found sooooo rude ! They push in the food queue and have terrible manners. It saddened me to see how the germans spoke to the staff. That said they didnt ruin anything and they didnt get their sunbeds saved !!! Must go to this hotel, loved it, 2.5 / 3 hour transfer from air port totally worth it. LOVED IT !

I came to Bentota Beach Hotel last year for the first time. I was fascinated by the hotel and the friendly staff. It was unforgettable. Nice rooms, very good food (big choose of national and international dishes).
This year I came back couple time to have a dinner there and also to enjoy the life music on Monday. It was a lovely evening with great reggae music. Wonderful musician.
Keep it up Shaman.

Recommendable hotel

room AC just didn't work!! nice clean beach. very nice peculiar location/entrance point such that there's a railway line & crossing RIGHT AT THE GATE of the hotel! run down ayurvedic spa. nice food - both for breakfast and for dinner. do try the Sri Lankan fare.

We stayed here for 2 days just 3 days before departure from Sri Lanca, after 2 weeks back packing through the country. During the last days of our traveling, we wanted some luxury with nice beach and swimming pool. Hence we have checked several hotels and a guesthouse with a swimming pool in Bentota and around. We found this hotel ideal for us. The reception of the hotel is beautifully decorated and refreshing, personnel is kind. It has beatiful rooms with view to the garden, swimming pool and the beach. The city center is nearby. And the price is just not too high for the quality. We really enjoyed staying here. There was only one negative thing. The personnel in the restaurant was a little bit lazy - like in all other hotels and guesthouses in Sri Lanca, there were plenty personnel members, actually too many of them everywhere, - and were hardly to be persueded to walk around to serve the person on the opposit side, instead of hanging with their body over the table. :-)

My wife and i stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in September this year. It is advisable to book a private transfer from the airport as it is cheap and much less hassle than spending 4 hours on a crowded bus, it cost us approx £15 each for this and was worth every penny after a long flight.

The all inclusive package, though cheap does not offer good value for money we found as, we were severely limited to what services were available to us. We found that the best option was half board as the breakfast and evening meal were very substantial and most other travelers were using this option.

The hotel by Sri Lankan standards is very good but i think that a few guests were used to a more "westernised" hotel experience and this may be reflected in their review comments. The hotel is, without doubt the best in the Bentota area and overall we had a lovely stay. The staff were very courteous and attentive and on the whole very efficient, we had no complaints.

Our top tip for the resort is to take plenty of $USD in small denominations as we tipped a little and frequently, this ensured that we always had our beach loungers, umbrellas and towels laid out and reserved for us in the mornings and the waiting staff would que up in order to assist you in your needs.

The only bad experience that we encountered was when we booked the "pontoon boat" for dinner and an evening river cruise. As it was my wifes birthday we decided to book the pontoon boat dinner & cruise for the evening. To ensure that we got a place, we booked 7 days in advance and tailored our traveling itinerary around this. We arrived promptly at the pontoon only to be informed that our table had been canceled. The reason for this was, there was a large corporate customer in the hotel and they had canceled all of the guest tables in order to take them on the river cruise instead. This, in my opinion is wholly unprofessional as they didn't have the courteousy to even inform us of this cancellation. The hotel should not conduct this type of activity.

The best part about the hotel is the location, with a pristine unspoilt beach on the doorstep, on which you could walk for miles in either direction. Overall a very pleasant stay.
