We have just spent 3 days in this amazing hotel at the end of a 2 week trip to Sri Lanka. From the moment we arrived to check in until we left we could not have found fault even if we had been trying! The room, an upper villa, was large and very comfortable, 2 sets of air con, office and sitting area, large bed, dressing room and amazing bathroom with stone bath ,open air shower and water feature. The balcony looked over the Indian Ocean and from the patio complete with table chairs and day bed we watched some spectacular sunsets.
The staff were lovely, clearly very well trained and the food wonderful, the best we had had during our time in Sri Lanka.
The hotel is well situated with fantastic beaches easily accessible on both sides, the infinity pool is the most striking visual feature and one of the best we have encountered.
We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful boutique hotel to others.

Just finished a 6 day quick trip without kids to Saman. Actually sitting in the airport about to fly home to Dubai and feeling depressed we're leaving. It was that good..

We had the grand deluxe room with a pool. Fantastic room, location, private pool. Quiet and a stunning view, steps to the quietest and most beautiful beach we've see in many years. In fact, you can walk out from either side of the resort and go for a continuous 8 KM walk and run into virtually no one. We spent up for the room with the private pool because we enjoy our privacy and don't really want to get into fighting for beach chairs at the pool. But in this case, with so few rooms and a huge pool and grounds, wouldn't have been an issue. Very subdued, quiet.. Anywhere you sit you feel like you're in your own space. Next time in fact we would just get the regular room and not pay up for a private pool. It was that low key and the pool is so nice, friendly attendants, etc. that it would be perfect to sit by every day.

The walking on the beach is as good as we've seen around the world .. 8Km contiguous.. just a couple other small hotels. No people hawking goods. Couple of tuk tuk drivers asking if you want a ride, that's about it. Big wide beach, beautiful water.. Only gripe is away from the hotel there is quite a bit of trash that has washed up. Not much to do about it but it does take away from it a bit.

Rooms are very nice.. hardwoods, nice beds, great patio with table and chairs. If on ground floor, beach loungers and an umbrella. Always very clean, great job by housekeeping

People... couldn't be nicer or friendlier. Seriously as nice as we've ever run into around the world. Very proud of their resort, country and they all smile and go out of their way to say hello and help... WITHOUT being over bearing.

Food... actually spectacular for a hotel. WAY above average. Fresh fish, curries, etc.. Ate Sri Lankan every day, every meal.. Cheap by US or European standards.. Probably expensive by Sri Lankan standards.. Big serving of Chicken / Daal Curry and a beer for 10 USD.. In town probably 1/2 that and we had ambitions to go find out, but it was so good and easy, we didn't eat off the resort. Did side trips, etc.. but the food was so good and the VIEW from your table so amazing, didn't see the point. Great quality breakfast.. String Hoppers , Coconut Roti and Curry for breakfast, that was a first.. They will go out of their way to get you what / as much as you want. Included in the price and right up there with the best we've had in Europe, SE Asia, etc..

VIEW.. unbeatable. Period. Can't be explained... but sit on the pool side looking down 3 KM of beach with nothing but crashing waves and palm trees actually from behind the waves crashing because of how the hotel sits out on a rock, is amazing. We literally had 1.5 hour breakfasts every morning at the same table and just sat and stared..

Not one negative. Amazing vacation. Amazingly friendly people. Amazing hotel.. Quiet, relaxing.. 20 star view.. excellent food.. excellent rooms.. Pool huge and amazing (and quiet) where you could just hang out on the infinity edge and be blown away.

Very very quiet.. No kids.. Adults who are just hanging out with their significant other staring at the view, reading books, chilling out.

Already planning our trip back..

Room Tip: We were in room 1 with a private pool.. We like privacy and hotel pools are usually a zoo.. But this place, doing it again, we'd get the basic nice room with a huge view and use the big pool. Very low key, more than enough lounges, running around, very everyone just doing their own thing and hanging out. All rooms really have amazing views I think and are well appointed with patio / deck table, chairs, etc..

Saman Villas is a very well-run, small (27 rooms) boutique hotel set in beautiful grounds with glorious deserted beaches either side. The suites are vast, and every possible convenience is provided. Despite the abundance of local wildlife, (a monkey almost joined me in the open-air bathroom), cleanliness is scrupulous; flies are noticeable by their absence, and mosquitoes are well catered for.

Staff pay extraordinary attention to detail, from the ubiquitous frangipani flowers and palm-leaf figurines left on the beds, to the chilled towels handed out by the pool attendants.

Food and drink prices (including the minibar) are very reasonable and the hotel are thankfully pragmatic about allowing guests to consume their own food and drink in the rooms. The minibar fridges are roomy and efficient. TV channels are limited but the free wi-fi (we found) worked perfectly well.

Reception staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Their advice is well worth listening to, and we found the driver-guides they provided safe, reliable and helpful. They were also prepared to be much more flexible in accommodating our personal schedule than our own tour provider.

We sampled massage treatments in the spa - relaxing, invigorating and very reasonable in price.

Food in the restaurant was often spectacular, particularly in the presentation of local dishes, and one felt that every meal was turned into a special occasion. Again, prices were very reasonable, even imported wine, and the local beer was perfectly acceptable. As might be expected, local tea and coffee were superb. The staff made it plain that they were anxious to ensure that they were doing the right thing, and the replies by the management to posts on this site suggest that they take guests' comments seriously and are prepared to learn lessons.

Light sleepers should be prepared to be roused at 5am every day by the bellowing of the first commuter train of the day along the coastal railway; this also tends to spur the wildlife into action, scampering over the roofs of the first-floor rooms. The only thing that the management could do to prevent this would be to triple-glaze and insulate the rooms which would, of course destroy the hotel's character and block out the soothing sound of the ocean. We don't want yet another airport hotel.

We would certainly return here without hesitation and have no reservation about recommending it to others.

One final point - the hotel is misplaced on the Trip Advisor map, which shows it as situated in Bentota village. The correct location is some 3km further south along the Galle Road towards Induruwa. This may mislead readers into thinking that the restaurants and other facilities in Bentota are within easy walking distance, which is not actually the case.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have less privacy, and the private pools are overlooked from 1st floor rooms. We had a (basic) superior suite which was north facing. Beautiful sea view, but south-facing rooms would also catch the sunset.

We fell in love with the location from the moment we stepped in to this beautiful hotel. The infinity pool alocation is marvalous which caught our heart and soul.It gives a professional photographer a wide range of opportunity. My kids couldn't put down the camera until our departure.I couldn't conclude this recomendation without talking about the food we enjoyed. The presentation and the quality was beyond the words. The staff was very friendly and humble. We were there for lunch only but my husband promised me and my kids that he will bring us back to this wonderful place for a memorable holiday. Now we are anxiously counting the days.

Stayed there 1 week with my wife for an exclusive treat. The infinity pool is amazing, the staff very friendly. Food quality excellent. Prices are on the highest end in Bentota. Offers great possibility to travel around. Hint : for Tuk Tuk trips, would definitely recommend Charlie (trips across the island also possible though we did not use him as we had a previous arrangement).
