We had 3 wonderful nights at Saman Villas at the end of a very busy tour of Sri Lanka. It was just the tonic we needed to relax before going home. It's in a wonderful location on a rocky outcrop with two pristine crescent shaped beaches stretching away either side of it. All the rooms have great views and some have their own small swimming pools. The rooms are beautiful with a separate dressing room and outside bathroom where you can watch fruit bats flying overhead while you have a shower. The restaurant food is very good and there are several romantic private dining options if you want to get brownie points with your loved one.

Room Tip: If you want to push the boat out even more, go for one of the rooms with their own private infinity...

I visited Saman Villas in February 2013 with my girlfriend. I read most of the reviews of this hotels and seemed great and wanted check it out….like everyone had reviewed, it was one of the best in sri lanka and specially for down south. Apart from one minor issue, which was dealt very swiftly and efficiently the service was flawless….

The food was a bit pricy but then again it’s a five start hotel. But you would not be disappointed on the food you order. Even if you ordered the simplest food it would just taste amazing!!!

Location: it’s right on the beach with breathtaking views of sea. Very private and exquisite surroundings with an infinite view if you just need to lay back relax glaze to the fabulous sunset.

Staff: well what can I say, it was simply the best. Specially to Indika(pool attendant) who resolved that minor issue(not going to detail) and took care of us and the rest of the team for the attention to detail all the way. Other hotels should take a leaf out of this hotel.

I will definitely visit here and recommend to other friends and spread the word…..

Thank you saman villas….

We had a wonderful 4 night stay in Feb 2013 towards the end of our honeymoon. After the sights, colour and crazy driving of a week long tour of Sri Lanka this was the perfect place to unwind. staggering views over the Indian Ocean from the room and infinity pool which everyone is convinced is 'photoshopped' in the pics.

Service was immaculate and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendlier.

If i had the money I'd live here.

Very inviting, calm and relaxing hotel, as soon as the big wooden gate of hotel opens, you feel the transition from chaos to calmness. Sound of water feature welcomes and helps to revive.
Overall Impression is very good, will stay there again.

The Good:-
Check-in: Was smooth, quick and soon after signing the card we were off to our room.
Room/Private pool: As shown in plan, the room was well presented, clean and gives the feeling of luxury, the private pool was clean. After a couple of hour’s nap, when we stepped out the umbrella was up, the pool chairs were ready with towels. I have read some reviews where previous guests complained about privacy/private pools. At any stage I didn't feel that our privacy was compromised. The private pool is surrounded by wall and shrubs, which is around 6 feet high, Yes there is a villa on 1st floor which overlooks the pool but doesn’t matter much. Restaurant: Restaurant is nice and open, one side overlooking infinity pool and sea, other side garden and sea. Food served was fresh, great use of local ingredients. Meals were tasty, loved the Chicken Curry and spicy kick it had.
Spa: Calm and tranquil, great selection of treatments. We went for selection of packages during our 3 days stay. Wish we had stayed little longer.
Staff: Always eager to help, with smile on their face. I would say the best asset of the hotel is their service team.

The Average :-
Bar : Bar is very boring and dead place. The resort can do many improvements to make it inviting.
Beach: If you are expecting clear water this is not a right place, however beaches are clean and rubbish free. While walking on beach, random tuk tuk guy may approach you to sell local tours etc., but they don't pester you to buy anything. They introduce themselves tell you bit about tours and go away.
Wifi: All 3 days we stayed we were not able to catch wifi in the room as it’s advertised. Even the hotel staff gave up after they tested the singles by bringing their own laptop.
However we were able to find Internet in the restaurant area, so it's not a big deal.

The Worse:-
Noisy next door hotel: Every Saturday night the neighbor hotel does the beach party(I found out when I was doing my morning walk and bumped into the staff member from this neighbor hotel), the loud thumping annoying music was on till 3:45 am. This ruined the final night at the Saman Villas. When one is paying $400.00 a room per night, they expect to sleep in peace and not to be disturbed by unwanted music.
We spoke to reception in the morning,(other guests were complaining as well) the informed that complaint is logged with local authorities.
I understand that the hotel has no control on these factors, but the management of hotel should communicate these to their guests so that guests are aware.
In a nutshell avoid Saturday night at Saman Villa’s or go join the beach party.

We thank the reviewer for their recent stay at Saman Villas and sharing their holiday experience.
We were delighted in reading the favorable comments made about the hotel and facilities. Thank you for recognizing and commending the efforts made by our team.
The hotel is currently providing Wi-Fi services through Sri Lanka’s largest mobile service provider but unfortunately they have failed to provide a reliable service. We have finalized an agreement with a new company and hope to offer the new system with a far more speedy service from May 2013 onwards.
While we regret for the disturbance caused due to loud music played by a hotel in close proximity, we would like explain the course of action taken by the hotel as it benefit other readers visiting this site. The last incident of noise pollution by the same hotel was on 2nd February. The owner of the hotel was severely warned by the Superintendent of Police for the Southern Province and the owner of the hotel promised to conform to the regulation. We have taken up the most recent incident with the Police at highest levels to take legal action.
As a result of the action that the Police will be taking, we do not expect reoccurrences of such incidents in future.
We are making every possible effort to delight our customers and give them a unique experience at Saman Villas. Although external noise is not directly within our control, we are making every possible effort with the assistance of the local authorities to prevent disturbance to our guests.

Arranged at short notice, we struck lucky with this hotel. Our relaxation started the minute we enter into the courtyard - the architecture, and water features are restful and uncluttered, the location beautiful and the staff the best I have experienced anywhere in the world. All the good things earlier reviewers say are true - we couldn't fault it. The other guests were either older couples or honeymooners, so no children when we were there, which added to the calmness about the place.
The food in the restaurant is fantastic and has all the best in Sri Lanka cuisine, and having tried a few other restaurants in the area, we decided they didn't come up to the Saman Villa's standard for quality and presentation, and the prices were about the same - so we chose to eat in the restaurant all the time after that. If you can, take the opportunity for a massage. At first sceptical, it was a first time for my husband, and he was amazed and delighted how deeply relaxing it was.

Fantastic start to our holiday at this lovely boutique hotel which is perched on a rocky headland between two sandy and virtually empty beaches, located about 2.5 hours drive from Columbo airport. Once the (will be no more than 2 hours once the final stretch of the Galle to Columbo Expressway is completed in August). Tranquil and relaxing surroundings with outstanding sea views, delicious food and great service. The weather will be warm but I can’t guarantee dry and sunny even in February. Little to do in the immediate locality (Bentota has few restaurants). Some excursions within easy reach (turtle hatchery; whale watching; river cruise; Galle), but it is a very long drive to the island’s top attractions. A perfect place to relax on a beach/pool holiday or to chill out for a few days before/after an island tour.

Room facilities: With the exception of the Villa, all suites very much the same (bedroom; dressing room; huge semi-outdoor bathroom with open air showers & oversize bath; small lounge area; large terrace with day bed, table & chairs). Large, comfortable bed with choice of pillows. Quiet and effective air-conditioning. Good BOSE sound system for the CD player with speakers in all rooms including the open air bathroom (could be a nuisance if neighbours are inconsiderate regarding the volume). The TV signal was a bit patchy (presumably due to the intermittent thunderstorms). As in most hotels, the hairdryer was not great if you have long, thick hair and there were no sockets in the bathroom or dressing room. I had to use my own dryer and straighteners in the lounge but without the benefit of a mirror. Umbrellas and torches in each suite. Some nice additional touches - the welcome champagne; complimentary foot massage; fruit bowl; decorated bed; fresh lotus flowers etc. Room and pool serviced thoroughly each day. Plenty of good sized towels. Complimentary bottled water provided daily. The burning coils (placed in the bathroom and on terrace) and the electric repellent seemed to keep the mosquitoes and others crawlies away on a night-time, but I managed to get bitten quite badly during the day so I recommend that you use sunscreen with a repellent).

Room types: There are five room types and the description on the hotel website is pretty accurate. With the exception of the duplex 'Villa', the hotel comprises several two storey buildings each housing two suites which are pretty much the same in terms of size and facilities. So, price aside, the deciding factors for room choice are whether you want privacy, sun or a private pool. The hotel’s main pool was never crowded and there are ample sunbeds dotted around the pool and grounds. All 27 suites are sea facing. #1-12 and the two storey duplex ‘Villa Suite’ lie to the south and catch the sun for most of the day; the other suites face north. The Superior suites are located on the upper level on both the north and south sides, some of these have the best unobstructed sea views. Ground floor Deluxe suites are on the south side and have a small front garden with sun beds but are the least private. The Deluxe suites with private (7-metre) pool are all on the north side and can be overlooked by guests staying in the rooms above. We were pleased that we had opted to stay in the Grand Deluxe Suite with pool which was located in the building furthest south. It was great to be able to dip in and out of the pool which was a good size (7m long but not wide enough for two people to swim side by side). The pool and side garden were relatively private as they weren’t overlooked by the suite above and were semi-enclosed by walls, shrubs and coconut trees. On the downside we didn’t benefit from any cooling seabreezes and the views over the beach/sea were partially obstructed. We also had a small front garden - not very private but great for catching the late afternoon sun. The Villa is larger (a duplex so no guests overhead) with superb views on both the ground and upper floors plus a completely enclosed and very private garden with pool.

Dining; There is one restaurant and a very small bar. When the weather was fine, a few tables were set up on the outside grassed terrace. Generous portions of delicious food. Fresh juices and platters of local fruit to start breakfast, followed by pastries and choice of hot/cold dishes. Good choice of European, Sri Lankan and other Asian cuisine from the a la carte lunch/dinner menu. The chef will happily adjust the strength of your curry to suit - you just need to ask. You can also choose from the daily set menu for dinner (three or four courses plus sorbet). Excellent seafood but you need to make a special request for the lobster. We really loved the romantic candle-lit dinner served by our pool on Valentine’s Day.

Lovely welcome with cold towels and refreshing drink. As other reviewers have commented, all the staff are so friendly and obliging. We were always greeted with a smile and the staff seemed genuinely interested in asking us about our day. Everyone worked really hard to make our stay special.

Room Tip: Suites #1-12 (including Grand Deluxe Suite with pool) and the two storey Villa for the more sunny so...
