From the moment we arrived and were greeted with smiles, cool face towels and chilled coconut water, we loved this place. I stayed here with a friend for three nights on a three-for-two offer, which was very good value. We booked through i-escape.com and due to that and it being quiet, we also got upgraded for free. Our room (suite 4) was stunning and very large, with a very comfortable bed and beautifully soft sheets - we would have been quite happy to stay there forever...

This hotel is truly wonderful: it looks beautiful and the stylish Bawa architecture and decor make for very luxurious and relaxing surroundings. Unfortunately the sea was quite rough during our stay (normal for the time of year it seems) but the pool and surrounding area were perfect for enjoying the sunshine. It is a really good sized pool; long enough to do 'proper' lengths while also being beautiful to just bob around in.

The staff could not have been more helpful during our stay. Nothing seemed like too much trouble and the warm smiles that greeted us at every turn added to the charm of the place. The food, especially the Sri Lankan options, was outstanding as was the presentation and the level of service received from the waiting staff. The chicken curry served at breakfast one morning was probably the best curry we had in our whole 2 weeks in Sri Lanka (and we tried a lot of curries).

The official price for a car to take us to the airport was extremely high (over twice the going rate), but the reception staff were very helpful and 'introduced' us to a driver with whom we agreed a much better rate.

Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough, particularly in the low season when the weather is still lovely but the place is quieter and very relaxed. We can't wait to go back!

We arrived here from the airport with the intention of relaxing after our travels. And that we did! The small, chic hotel is a beautifully decorated former home with very good service. The food was excellent, some of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The grounds were very well landscaped with a great pool and a covered pavillion with great pillows. We did not mind the trains that periodically went by...we thought it was charming. Our two day stay here was in the middle of June and it was empty. We had a massage which I would rate as average. We walked to the beach but did not go in as the water was rough and were told the currents can be strong that time of the year. We would definitely recommend staying at this lovely hotel in Bentota.

The location, decor, buildings and rooms are fantastic - let me start on a positive note! A lovely old walauwa, beautifully renovated, and really stylishly done out. Lots of space to sit and mellow out, a gorgeous pool and gardens. But the service was a huge let down - it just didn't match up to what the place purports to be: a small, luxury hotel for the discerning traveller. Basically, 2 star service in 5 star surroundings - no class, no quality, no style. The first greeting statement when we arrived was "give us your credit cards now", and that was pretty much a continuing theme. Which leaves a bit of a nasty taste, as all that beauty is undermined by a persistent feeling that money, money, money is what is driving the place. We found that orders for food and drink were consistently wrongly taken, took ages to arrive, and also that staff (with the exception of the wonderful pool staff) had no real wish to serve pleasantly, promptly or politely. As it as one of my guest's birthday, we requested dinner at a special table outside (as advertised on the website) - and were tole "no, it's too much trouble for us to do that". Finally the front desk staff grudgingly agreed ... and when dinner-time arrived ... nothing! "Oh, we forgot, and there are alot of mosquitoes" we were told, as we eventually sat down in the restaurant to a rather average meal. the maintenance is also quite poor - the balcony doors came off their hinges, the bathroom was moldy and stank horribly of urine all around the toilet area, and the sheets also smelt pretty rank. So overall - Paradise Road, you've got the location beautifully right, but the service just doesn't match. Not even close.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our Sri Lankan holiday, It was a 3.5 hour drive from the airport, so were very glad to arrive at the hotel with welcome drinks waiting. Our room was very large, huge bathroom and a large balcony with views of the sea through the trees. Hotel had free wifi in communal areas of the hotel which was great, also had a lovely pool area. The beach was 50 metres from hotel over the railway track, would recommend walking down the beach at sunset and grabbing a beer at one of the bars along the beach whilst sitting at a table on the sand very nice! food at hotel was good, nice breakfast.

After the 3 1/2 hour drive from the airport, it was lovely to be welcomed with a cool towel and drink upon arrival at the hotel. Check-in was a breeze and we were quickly settled in to our room, which had two sets of french door opening unto the lovely lawn/pool area. The rooms are done in a rustic/beachy style, all tied together beautifully with the fantastic view of swaying palm trees and the sound of the ocean. The AC in our room leaked water and on our last night we were upgraded to a room a level up, which was a nice gesture.

The food in the restaurant was generally good quality, particularly the local dishes. We can highly recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast. Though a little annoying that many of the local dishes needed to be ordered in advance.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, although a bit sleepy, probably due to it being the low season. (Only a few rooms were occupied during our stay).

My husband and I both loved the trains going past at the back of the property, and never found it a nuisance, but rather a charming little quirk.

The hotel is perfect for relaxing and we will definitely recommend it.

Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to review Paradise Road The Villa Bentota and share your experienced views with other Trip Advisor viewers!

We truly value our guests' feedback and are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We apologise if the staff appeared not in form, which is not acceptable at any time of the year and this will be brought up with them.
Sri Lankan food is best cooked in a designated kitchen, as we serve a variety of cuisines and because our local food requires considerable preparation is unfortunately why advance notice is required for most.

Unfortunately the train service will not functional from 1 Sept 2011 - Jan 2012, but we do look forward to welcoming our treasured feature in the new year!

Thank you again for your recommendation to others and we look forward to welcoming you back to Paradise Road hotels and Sri Lanka!

Yours in Service,

The Management
