Without a doubt this is the best kept secret garden in the country. This is the perfect getaway for me. I love how rustic & silent the entire place is. The true essence of Geoffrey is still there in this estate.

I have only stayed for one night here, but I'm definitely going back for some more.

A beautiful and scenic garden. Wear your mosquito repellant and eat before you come. A sandwich costs £12 - the kids were hungry so we had no chioice, it took over half an hour and was unspectacular given the price.

On a grander scale than his brother's garden at Brief, Lunuganga is a marvellous testament to the inspired vision of Geoffrey Bawa. Many of the island's hotels and public buildings are living symbols of his genius, but none more so than this spectacularly ethereal landscape.

Our last of three visits (all arranged by Amangalla) was in line with the previous ones:
1. Dificult to get in as they appear not to hear the bell.
2. Staff looking down and treating visitors like they do them a favour despite the stiff prices charged for lunch with curries which are delicious.
3. Not allowing visitors paying for lunch into the house or even onto the verandah. The bad ambiance is palpable,

This is neither the spirit nor the style of Geoffrey Bawa whose heritage is represented here. Unfortunately the place is of a great beauty and hard to skip.

P.S.: On a funny note. At the end of our last visit not only we were allowed on the verandah for lunch (rain coming), but even into the house and guess why: We were with the Aman GM who introduced himself to the managers whom I never saw before and they appeared quite kind, if distant people.

So to minimize risks of disappointment plan well ahead, best have your tour and lunch arranged by Aman or skip and visit only The Brief.
