Old people's tremendous scientific history is hiding in such a place.

When I read the literature about the observatory I was excited to go, but when I got there, there was just this little crooked solitary tower in a field, with nothing else. You can't go inside, or even get close to it. Unimpressive.

Cheomseongdae is part of the "Gyeongju Historic Areas" Unesco world heritage site. Built in the early 7th century, this observatory is considered the oldest in Asia. The design is elegant, yet also based in science.

The site itself only takes about 20 minutes to visit. Most visitors read a couple explanations of the site, circle the observatory, and snap some pictures. There is an admission ticket ($1), even though you can see the observatory from just outside the small fenced in area. Enjoy the unique observatory, and then continue on to many of Gyeongju's other attractions.

I saw this place at night. You can spot it from afar. Or pay 1000₩ to enter the area, which is worth paying if you want a photo close up.

At night time it is lit up and looks really beautiful, worth a stop by. Dont miss it.

We had a pleascent walk through a garden with dolmen and tombs before reaching the observatory. The observatory as such is just the round building standing in the park. But the thought that it is asias oldest observatory and made of as many bricks as there are days in the year is food for thought.
