“nice stay except the quilt with unpleasant smell”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

We have 5 persons and booked 1 room for Standard Double + 1 room for Korean style family foom.

Since we took train to Gyeongju Train Station and arrived in the afteroon. We asked Mrs. Park (the pension owner) to wait for us at station. Mrs. Park can speak English and she is a nice person. Initially, we asked Mrs. Park to drive us to her pension for settle down before starting our sightseeing. She suggested us to have sightseeing nearby the train station first coz the following places are nearby the train station :

Cheonmachong Tomb, Cheomseongdae Observatory, Daerungwon, Anapji Pond, National Museum

Mrs. Park took our luggages to her pension.

After travel, we took bus nearby National Museum to Bomun Lake area and asked the bus driver to notify us when the bus-stop is reached. It is difficult to say any special identification at the bus-stop we got off. There is some restaurants and 7-11 shop located in the opposite of the bus stop. Then, we crossed the road and started to walk from 7-11 to pension. Torch or lighting from mobile phone is very important coz the walkway is very dark and silent. It needs 20 mins walk to pension. Anyway, Mrs. Park was willing to drive us from 7-11 to pension if need.

The rooms are spacious no matter is double room or family room. The floor is ondol. You can cook meal at room coz of kitchen-ware is provided. But a bit disappointed that the room decoration is so-so, not same as the photos I saw from hotel webs.

The rooms are clean but an unpleasant smell from quilt.

If you don't wanna eat at the pension (need to pay), you can go to 7-11 and there are some restaurants for Korean food.

My stay in Bellus Rose Pension Hotel had been a lovely experience. All credit to the effort that Ms Park and his husband had put in to run this little pension.

After booking the pension, I drop a note to Ms Park, and she kindly give us very specific directions on how to get to her Pension and even arrange for her husband to pick us up from the bus stop in Bukgun-Dong. Once there she flip up a map and share with us how to get to each attractions in Gyeongju and also advise on where can we see what and which are the must go places. On our last day, even though we did not order the breakfast, Ms Park delivered free breakfast for us too.

Every room is large and well equipped with kitchen facilities, TV, heater/aircon and toiletries. Wifi are available too, though it could be slightly unreliable in rooms on the upper floor. The rooms are quite nicely decorated, but a tad too "cute/feminine" for a guy.

Location wise, Bukungun-dong is located about 10mins drive from the city and 5 mins from Bomun Lake resort area. in the other direction. It is still a 30min bus ride to Bulguksa Temple. Opposite the bus stop, there are plenty of restaurants and a convenience store for meals and stock up your daily needs.

Would have given it a 5 star, if not for the 15min walk from the bus stop to the Pension. Do bring a torch light with you as it could be quite dark from the bus stop to the Pension at night.

Room Tip: Must be prepared for a 15min walk from the nearest bus stop and restaurants/shops

Mrs Park is truly a lovely lady and a gracious hostess. Her pension is the perfect opportunity to experience South Korean culture and hospitality.
Once we'd checked in she gave a very quick but detailed brief on the sites of Gyeongju, how to access them and the places to eat. She helped us book KTX train tickets (Busan to Seoul) and was even kind enough to buy us bus tickets from Gyoengju to Busan whilst making a shopping trip in town.
She took a picture of us when we departed which was a very nice touch.

Room Tip: We stayed in the korean style room without a bed. It was very spacious and we were given thin mattre...

We have recently had 2 nights in the Bellus Rose Pension - had a very comfortable stay - Mrs Park is a wonderful hostess and nothing is too much trouble. She will pick you up from the bus stop and take you back if needed, although the pension is only a 10 min walk from the bus stop. The 700 bus is a half hour trip from the KTX train station to the bus stop.
All the 7 rooms have a kitchenette if you wish to self cater, and breakfast is served in the rooms for an additional 10.000 won per person.
Would recommend this pension to anyone visiting Gyeongju

We had a very good experience here. We arrived earlier than expected and the manager/host, Mrs. Park, graciously picked us up from the bus stop. The room was well equipped and nice, with a good view to the back yard and pool. Mrs. Park was extremely helpful in giving us directions and bus information to the places we wanted to visit. Her breakfast was great. On our last day we stopped at the museum on our way to the train station and realized we had left our phone in our room. We figured we would have to go all the way back by bus to get it, wasting precious time, but when we called Mrs. Park she offered to bring it to us. She arrived, phone in hand, in a very short amount of time so we were able to still see some sights before catching the train. Although the pension is located a bit further out of town than we expected, bus service was good and there were several restaurants within a short walking distance. We highly recommend this pension.

This is not a hotel, nor B&B, but rather self-catering apartments. The host lady is really very nice and tries her best to accommodate your needs. We were upgraded from our originally booked ground-floor room to a bigger room on the second floor. I think this pension is the ideal place for Koreans travelling by car: there is free parking available and tables in garden where they do barbecue and eat their foot (and disturb other guests - especially during weekends). But I think this place is not very convenient for foreigners who do not have car: the nearest bus stop is located 1.2 km from the pension (15 minutes walking). The nearest shop and restaurants (only Korean food) are at the same distance. If you want to eat western food you need to go either to the city center or to more expensive hotels on the other side of lake. So, the location is not perfect.
The room itself is clean, bright and spacious, although a bit overdecorated. There is no wardrobe. The room has a small kitchen where you can prepare your own food (which you need to carry on you from town). There is a shared micro oven in corridor. Korean breakfast can be booked for 10000 WON/pp. As in many places in South Korea, bed linen is not complete (no under sheets) but if you ask you will receive it.
As a conclusion: if location is not a problem I would definitely recommend this pension.

Located at Bukgun-Dong, it is easily navigated by bus 700 from the KTX Station.

Mrs. Park was fantastic. She picked us up from the bus stop, 5 minutes after we called per her arrangements made via email a week earlier. A disaster was averted as soon as we got to the bus stop as I realized I left my backpack on the bus. She researched the bus schedule, called the bus line, who called the bus driver, who stopped to drop off the backpack on his return trip - all within 30 to 45 minutes.

She even stopped to pick us up when we were walking the next day to the bus stop to offer us a ride.

When my wifi signal was a bit sketchy, she installed a router in our room which had a strong signal.

She helped plan our day trips and suggested sites on a map which she provided.

The local restaurants near the bus stop were okay. The best meal we had was at the strip mall near the Bulguksa temple area.

The room was nicely decorated and quiet. The shower is Asian style with no doors or curtain. You get use to it quickly.

She offers a breakfast of egg and toast, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee for 10,000 won, each. It was convenient for us, as she brought it up to our room per arranged time.

There are about 40 other pensions in the village, so there are several to choose from. We would choose Mrs. Park and the Bellus Rose again.

Bomun Lake is an easy walk across the road. We took the 10 bus to visit Anapji Pond, National Museum, Observatory, ice storage, etc. which were 10 minutes away.

Room Tip: There's only a few rooms. From what we could see, they were all nice
