We went to the Yousung Hotel on a family vacation to celebrate the new year. We arrived December 30 and left January 1. Highlights at the hotel for us were the pool and fitness center and it was located within about 10 miles of the different places we hoped to visit in Daejeon. Also the staff was pleasant and brushed the snow from our car after a pretty good overnight snowfall and also let my wife back in our room after we checked out to retrieve an item my daughter had left behind. We got a room with a single bed and a double bed, which proved to be a bit tight for our family of 6 but it was the best we could do in our price range for a room with beds. There were some problems too, which is why I rated the hotel average. There was mold growing along the ceiling near the bathroom door. The rest of the room seemed pretty well maintained. There was shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower and a bar of soap for the sink, but all other amenities in the bathroom, minus the towels and toilet paper, were there with a note that said the user of them would be charged for their use upon check-out. The pool there was great, but it cost an additional 20,000 won (combined) for me, my 6,4, and 3 year old to use it for two hours. It was also closed New Year's Eve so we woke the kids up early to go swimming New Year's Day before we packed up to check out. At 110,000 won a night, the place seemed fair for the price, but not an excellent value. The immediate surrounding of the hotel is not family friendly. I guess a had a different kind of "spa" in mind when I read about the Yousung area. There were lots of "gentlemen's" clubs around the hotel, the kind this happily married gentleman does not care to venture into, but I suppose if you are looking for that sort of thing then the location of the hotel would be perfect.

This is a good hotel, to be recommended. Location in the downtown is excellent, close to the river and its walking/running paths covering more than 20km along its embankments.
The rooms are lovely and of nice proportion, making the stay very comfortable. Good bedding with all-white covers gives the jet-lagged traveler the well needed rest. The bathroom with tub is a bit outdated but still functioning well and has a lovely washbasin + table in natural stone (marmor?).
There is no wifi but only cabled internet which is a bit slow, and that is bad news for your tablet or phone user.
There are some specialized attractions like a swimming pool, fitness room and a hot water spring spa that I could not sample unfortunately. Apparently people visit the hotel only for that.
The breakfast from 7 to 10 is ok, with a good choice of coffees and juices. The food is mostly of the Korean variety and no decent bread is at offer. The chef is only rarely available for frying eggs.
Staff is very friendly and always ready to help. Having stayed at the neighbour hotel Riviera before, I would rather recommend the Yousung.

This place is in the middle of the sex district for Daejeon. There were call girls being picked up right across from the hotel entrance. There were lots of places that had women for hire 24hours a day. It was more than any of the other hotels around, you had to pay for anything in the room, the swimming pool was terrible and it was W8,000 each time you went. The advertisement said the room had a microwave but there wasn't one in site. If you needed it you had to call room service and be charged to warm up some food. I paid more than W135,000 for one night and it was awful. The room smelled like smoke and the hotel stuff could not speak English at all. Overall it was a terrible experience. I should have paid less and stayed in one of the love motels because it was the same atmosphere.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all

After using the hot springs in the hotel, I asked reception how to get somewhere. They rudely asked me what is your room number and when I said I wasn't staying there, I just used the hot spring in their hotel which was quite obvious from my wet hair, they wouldn't help me. Even when I told them the reason I am asking them is because they speak English, they refused to help me. This is supposedly a four star hotel. In most hotels even if you are not staying there and need help getting somewhere, they will help you as it is only common courtesy to help travelers find a place. I was impressed by the hot springs and had thought about staying here some time but after my interaction with reception I will chose some place else in Daejeon. At that time when I asked they were not even busy; there were no other guests there so there was no excuse not to help me.

Stayed here for two nights for a business stay. Room was bit disappointing, old worn down furniture and smelled badly of tobacco smoke. Hotel supposedly has a good spa and location is good for visiting Kaist. Also, staff were friendly with good English. However, room itself was not so great, it might have been great 30 years ago, but this not any more.
For the quality of room you can find better or equal value in one of the many near-by lovehotels for one quarter of the price of Yuseong hotel.

Room Tip: Not sure if they have non-smoking room, but please try to ask for it
