The environs and the temple itself are amazing. Best site in Busan! I am planning on returning to do some hiking.

I thought I was just visiting one buddhist temple but no, there are multiple temples hidden up on this mountain. I went in late Octoboer so the leaves were changing. There's something so serene and beautiful about buddhist temples up on the mountains.

Be sure to ask to be dropped off at the top of the mountain where all the different buddhas are. It's kind of neat to look at and then besides the main temple, check out the smaller ones. As with any place in Korea, where comfortable shoes.

On an average weekday this temple was buzzing with Korean visitors and a large number of Korean women doing a one-two day Templestay program. It's not too difficult to access, if you have bus/car transportation to take you part way up the mountain, otherwise it is probably a long climb from the metro. It's attractive, has a large rock that is supposedly very powerful (so touch it a lot) and an equally powerful fresh-water spring, which is safe to drink. The first gate to the temple is a national historical treasure. The origins of the temple were in the 7th century, but a Japanese invasion in the 16th century destroyed the original. Frommer's guide to S. Korea provides a lot of nice info about the various sites in Busan (especially compared to the skimpy details in Lonely Planet).

Serene, peaceful, beautifully manicured gardens, just a beautiful and pleasant escape from the busy city. Definitely a must go to when in Pusan.
