“Good choice if the room rate is good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2010

Hits:
- Relatively new property
- Clean
- Conveniently located by gas station/convenience store, restaurant and ice cream stand
- Modern room appointments (think "George Jetson"-like)
- Can be inexpensive depending on demand

Misses:
- Can be overly expensive depending on demand
- Not so scenically located behind a gas station/convenience sore, restaurant and very busy season ice cream stand
- No room Wi Fi
- Haven't found a way to make a left (east) turn onto Central Ave.
- Separate lavatory and shower rooms can sometime be inconvenient
- Living area can still be warm when the AC is on in the sleeping area
- Large groups of kids sometimes - especially on the weekends

NOTE: This property has to have the SLOWEST toaster of all Marriott properties. Apparently they overcompensated when the original toaster set off the fire alarms once too frequently. If you want toast, start it, go back to your room, take a shower and when you come back the bread will be starting to turn brown.

Checked in late, exhausted from long trip..first room cushion was off chair, stains on couch..bed looked like it had already been slept in..sheets hanging off, untucked..pillows rumpled..sheets were extremely wrinkled. Staff was quick to help..sent us to another room. Second room sheets were equally as wrinkled..mattress pad hanging off the end of bed.. sent us to a third room, same bed/linen issues...The staff was very sorry and took us to fourth room where it was obvious that all rooms were probably going to look the same way!!! We were so tired at this point we just decided to stay in the room...they assured us the beds were clean, but it made for a VERY uneasy night. (Section of town is a little rough and didn't feel comfortable going back out for food at that hour..)

I travel to Albany at least 4 times per year and as always arrive late at night. I found the check in easy, the room clean and comfortable and the breakfast plentiful. Will stay again on my next trip.

I prepaid through Expedia, and made this clear at time of check-in.

However, the hotel still charged me a nights stay on check-out, and have not replied to my (or Expedia's) repeated requests for a refund.

Other than that issue, the room was fine and so was the breakfast.

Springhill Suites rooms, though modern, have eccentric aspects not to our preference. For example, there is no furniture with drawers Though billed as one bedroom suites, there's really just a partial wall seperating the bed from the rest of the room. Our unit had a stand up shower unit with no tub. This room had a sink and spacious counter. Adjacent but separate to this room is another small 1/2 bath with just a toilet and tiny sink with no counter. The rooms come with small fridge and microwave. There's just one TV, though it's a large flat screen. When traveling with kids, we much prefer a Residence Inn or Homewood Suites.

As for this specific property, free breakfast was reasonable, with all the standard choices. Sitting area was large and attractive. Food staff were helpful - a pleasant contrast to the non-chalant if not surly front desk staff. Pool was small but warm, though towels were always in short supply. Free wi-fi worked fine.

Stayed at this hotel on a Friday night. Quiet neighborhood (commercial/residential). Hotel looks brand new (few years old), rooms are very modern and have a lot of nice touches (good lighting, flat screen TV, comfortable beds, roomy desk and sitting area, kitchenette (frig, microwave, sink). Good free breakfast. Pool is small but clean. No jacuzzi (my kids were bummed out about that). You might overlook this hotel because it is officially located in Colonie, not Albany, but it is conveniently located right off the highway, so for just a few minutes more of a drive, it's worth it. We stayed using Marriott Rewards Points, and it was well worth the minimal amount of points.

Three negative comments (mostly isolated incidents): 1- Elevator worked sporatically (sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't). Very frustrating. I pointed it out to the hotel staff - they said it's being worked on, but just seemed to accept it. I recommended to them that they put up temporary signs at the elevators on each floor to let guests know the elevators may not be working, so they can decide to take the stairs rather than waiting,... and waiting,... and waiting. They didn't seem to care to hear my suggestion. So we had to lug bags up and down the stairs. So... when you check in, ask if the elevators are working. If not, stay on the first floor. 2 - Toilet was clogged, and plunging didn't seem to help (we had to plunge it ourselves). 3 - Air conditioning was loud. Luckily it was not hot during the night.

Overall, very nice hotel, and I would recommend it.

I have stayed here for business on a few occasions. There is nothing outstanding or sensational about this hotel. It's a basic hotel and it does meet all of my travel needs. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean. My only real disappointment is that sometimes the soda in the vending machines and the lobby are outdated. Otherwise, it works fine for me, and I will likely keep returning.
