“What an unbeleivable experience!”
Reviewed August 19, 2009

In all my many years of traveling as a contract consultant I have stayed in many differnt hotels under numerous brand names. I have to say that my stay at the downtown Albany Hampton Inn was far above any other stay I have ever had. The staff from the front desk to the hotel management make a guest feel like family. They are all professional and as friendly as its gets. I would strongly reccomend this establishment to anyone who vists downtown Albany. The only bad part of staying at this hotel is that you may never again encounter an experience like you will when staying with them no matter how much you pay for a stay.

Staff is wonderful. Even the cleaning or maintenance people you meet on the elevator go out of their way to be welcoming and friendly. Facility is the nicest Hampton Inn that I regularly stay at - slightly more upscale like a full fledged Hilton. Location is perfect, with an eclectic selection of eating and drinking places all walking distance away.

I am always treated well and have yet to find an issue with the Albany Hampton Inn itself or the staff that manages it....very pleased!

I just returned from a four day weekend at the Hampton Inn Albany Downtown (not to be confused with the many other Hamptons in Albany). It is important to say upfront that this is the nicest Hampton Inn I think I have ever stayed. Someone with style made some good choices. It is a very pleasant, very comfortable hotel. I have stayed in many Hamptons all over the USA, and this was the single most well appointed one I have seen or stayed in.

A couple of thoughts:
(1) I was there for a speech and debate tournament with 3000 other high school students and adults. This was one of the tournament hotels. I do not think the HI staff had ever seen so many teenagers converge on them at once. While the staff was helpful and pleasant, they were not prepared to handle the onslaught of folks that wanted and needed their attention.
(2) Check in was crazy. Most hotels have group reservations ready and waiting when you arrive. I had to wait nearly 30 minutes for each room to be checked in and keys to be made. This could have been done before I arrived.
(3) Even though #2 was annoying, Amy in group sales was terrific and helpful. I absolutely was more patient waiting because I felt as though I had been treated so well leading up to check in.
(4) Someone at the HI should give John at the front desk a very large raise. He is the type of front desk person every hotel dreams of. No matter how crazy or loud or busy the hotel got, he was professional, pleasant and charming.
(5) Rooms, nice and typical for an HI.
(6) Housekeeping needed some training on the finer points of cleaning. My trash was only emptied once during my stay. I asked for the bed linens to be changed, they were not (I made a mark on a sheet so I could tell). The bathroom was neat, but never really cleaned. By no means was the housekeeping poor, but they could have been a little more detail oriented.

I'd go back. It is a nice place and you can walk to many things. There are some great small places to eat around the hotel and the onsite restaurant is absolutely fantastic. The food at the DP restaurant was extremely good.

The parking is $12 a day. Park around the hotel for free if you can.

Had a 1 night stay at the Chapel St location over the weekend. Ever so slightly on the edges of downtown.

This should be branded a Hilton because it's so nice. But here's why it shouldn't:

- housekeeping didn't clean under the toilet seat. My wife would have flipped out if she saw that.
- the sheets had a stain on it (the type that doesn't come off).
- the shower didn't have a soap dish. You could see where it should have been.
- the bar to help you in/out of the shower was placed mid-shower. It was in the way.

Free computer in the lobby.
The usual HI breakfast.
Free overnight parking on the street from 6:00pm till 8:00am.

I'd still go back at the right price. Otherwise, I'm sticking to the HI on Wolf Road.

I stay in Hilton family hotels all over the US probably 100 nights per year, many of them in Hampton Inns. I love this particular brand because it's solid, predictable and unpretentious. Having said this, the Albany (downtown), NY property completely blew me away on my recent stay. The beautiful, highrise building is only a block from the State Capitol. It includes a nice bar and restaurant, and a fine workout room complimented by a "relaxation room" where, for a nominal fee, you have private access to steam, sauna, tanning and a massage chair that's out of this world. The lobby is spacious and elegant. The breakfast was Hampton-solid as always. This hotel was well above my expectations for this brand. I look forward to my next visit!
